Same goes for the North. I have friends and family in the mountains around Blaenau Ffestiniog and they all drive diesels. The bottom end torque makes light work of the hills, particularly if the car is laden.
There are some evil roads and hills in that area. It's always occurred to me that buying a 50,000 mile car that's lived around there all its life must be like buying a 100,000 miler from a flatter part of the country. These things just lug, constantly.
