VW Sharan - John Ryder
Could anybody tell me if it is possible to fit air con to a 1997 2Ltr Sharan and what the cost might be
Re: VW Sharan - honest john
Phne the aircon specialists in the FAQ answer about aircon on this website. But if you want the double aircon system that reaches the back pair of seats you are looking at a lot of money. Easily £2k. Cheaper to offload the Sharan and buy another with a/c.

I can see why John should want a/c. My frim hired me a Galaxy today (not a particularly hot day 16 - 17 C) it was sans a/c model - what a stuffy car - it was blooming awful.
Re: VW Sharan A/C - Dave N
Cost of a/c is about £1500. I don't do this anymore, but try www.readerair.co.uk or www.vacs.co.uk.

Just be warned, this is a big job, especially the dash that has to come out. Airbags out, steering column off, everything you see in front of you has to be removed, so this in itself can bring associated problems.

You may be better off-loading it as HJ says. But beware! If you buy another 2nd hand Sharan (or Galaxy or Alhambra), make sure you get a warranty that covers the entire a/c system, as they all had problems with the evaporator under the dash, usually at about 3 years old. This is the big job I warned about above and costs £950 to fix. It's also worth mentioning that the reliability of the a/c system as a whole is not too good, hence my decision to elevate it to the no.1 position on my 'crap cars to try and fix a/c on' chart, pushing out the Renault Espace inyo 2nd place.

Go out and buy a SEAT Alhambra - cheaper than Sharan and far better bulit than the Galaxy. Get one with a decent dealer warranty and stick to the servicing intervals (Keep the warranty valid!) and you'll not regret it.
