99 1.6 faulty speedo - ae
Hi,

I've got a Renault Megane coupe sport 1.6 1998, the is a problem with the speedo where it seems to work when the car is started from cold then stops shortly afterwards.

I've posted picture of what I think is the speed sensor, can you please review and let me know if I'm looking in the right place:

That's the crankshaft position sensor [A.K.A. engine speed sensor or TDC sensor.]

Vehicle speed could well be networked-in from the ABS system. Do you have the exact engine code? This was a change year.

Not sure what the code is , I found these letter on the engine: DA 7/02. The car was registered in August 1998. If it wasn't in the ABS where else would it be ?

Thanks.

Aug '98 puts it right on the change. If that's a K7M 702 unit, then the early '98 built ones had a 3-wire vehicle speed sensor on the differential linked to the engine ECU and the later ones used a signal from the ABS.

Both types can suffer from failing dashpods too.

I can't find it, must be in the ABS, I think I'll take it to the garage next week.

Thanks for your help.
