54 2.0TDCi Tyre speed rating - Peter
A pair of my tyres are due replacement soon and whilst I know the size 205/55/16, I'm finding it difficult to pin down the speed rating. V or W.

The handbook indicates the rating depends on the engine type and size, they can be H, T, V, or W.

I have a pair of V rated on one axle and W on the other.

Can anyone advise me as to the correct rating.

A V rated tyre will carry its rated load (as denoted by the two numbers before the letter) up to 149 mph and W will do the same up to 168 mph, so I'd say a V would do just fine on that car.

i have a 51 2.0ltr petrol my hand book says V rated but iv always bought tyres with W rating not by choice but what is avalible at the time iv purchased.

In theory V rated will last longer then W as it will be a harder compound.
