Just been offered a 2006 EOS diesel manual 70k on clock for £11k.
This is some 5k less than any other I have seen and the mileage is way out of line with others on sale which seem to have been used as second hand toys.
Downsides people?

Think if you do a mileage-adjusted valuation, it won't be "suspiciously cheap" any more.

I suspect such a fasion concious car like this will take a fair hit having such high mileage for such a young vehicle. Having said that as long as its been looked after and service properly i would suggest it could be a smart purchase - especially if you do relatively low mileage.

Convertible's don't usually wear high mileage well. No idea what EOS is like, but it may well be getting very rattley.

HJ is right - call a dealer and find out if its had any warranty work for the roof. They can be a nightmare to fix.
|
The only people who say they retain their value are the dealers (when they are selling you one) and those who own one (but have not yet tried to sell).
There are too many about and too short a waiting list for new ones (Longer wait for a Corsa or a Fiesta) so second hand prices are low - as we experienced!
If it is a 1.6 don't touch it - these things are heavier than you would believe and the 1.6 cannot cope with the weight.
There are 28 microswitches in the roof and the failure of one to stay on its mounting took VW five weeks and input from Germany to fix. What puzzled me was that with the diagnositc system plugged in the roof worked, unplug it and it didn't, but it could not identify the fault!
Also there is NO WAY of manually operating the roof when it fails!

Another example of excellent VW design then!

having a test drive when it's raining might answer a few questions!

A friend had one that was in the dealers for months having its roof sorted out. Fortunately, it was a company car and so she didn't have to lose too much sleep. Before you buy, it might be worth reading some of the owner reviews e.g. on 'WhatCar', then deciding if you want to gamble. Personally, I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole!

Maybe I'm just being cynical...but I suspect a new user replying to this 2 year old article was just a subtle way to get get traffic to their website...
|
I vaguely considered one when I realised that my elderly mother could not get onto a 2.0 MX5 folding hardtop which was my first choice.
Have just taken delivery of an '04 330Ci Convertible which I highly recommend (so far). Considerably fewer miles, and money, than the Eos mentioned.

Ah but your BMW is SIX years old and the EOS was only TWO years old WHEN they posted!

A convertible with a PD engine (and a DPF IIRC) needs to be cheap - horrid, horrid, horrid.....
Sorry to show such bias but some things just aren't 'right' imho.

My apologies. I did not look at the date of the original post.
Must try harder.
