Replacement Windscreen - Marc
Hi, got a crack in my screen last night and need to get a replacement. I am insured with Morethan, anyone know who they use for replacements?

Anybody had a screen replaced by the usual companies (RAC and Autoglass) recently?

Thanks

Is there any reason why you should have to let Morethan arrange the replacement? With my insurance I would chose the repairer myself, just as I would for any other accident damage repair. The main thing is to make sure that you get either a genuine screen or at least a screen made by the same manufacturer and to the same specification as the original.

I hope for your sake you don`t drive a Citreon C4 Picasso, as I see in this week`s Auto Express, that a replacement screen is £1200.!!!!!

That's only of relevance if (for some unusual reason) you have to pay for the screen yourself.

One insurance replacement I had done once, had a maximum value the insurance company would pay. So I had to pay the first £50 and then the amount over the £250 limit.

Try googling the Windcreen Claims telephone number which should be in your insurance documents and see if that gives any clues. My nearest Autoglass is OK, so I now phone the number on their website and ask if they work with my current insurers, so far, they have asked for my reg. no. and always said yes.

How van a windscreen cost £1200, and if it does, do you really want it fitted by some geezer who turns up in a van and works in the street outside your house?

It's for a Vectra C. I'm fully comp so I'll only have to pay the excess. I had a previous experience where we had a car TPFT and had to pay for a new windscreen out of my own pocket - expensive!

Speaking to a few colleagues it seems you can choose where to take the car and they will bill the insurance co direct (as L'escargot also suggests).

Think I'm going to go with Autoglass this time as the previous two occasions I've used Auto Windscreens and ended up with aftermarket screens.

Thanks for the replies.

It could be unless you check T & C

Check your T & C. More reliable than office / pub talk :-(
You may find that unless you use a defined company they will only pay a % of the cost.
IIRC mine says a max of £125.

A few weeks ago Autoglass fitted my 98 Mondeo with a non OE screen.

According to the article the screen was so large, that it was not possible to fix at the customer`s home, so had to be driven to the local Autoglass depot for replacement.

Don't know what it's like for other cars, but some other outfit with a name a bit like Autoglass fitted my Escort with a screen in the right shade of green next day for about half their price. Of course if someone else is paying it doesn't matter so much.
