the best thing i can advise is to nip down to your local library and take some notes from a haynes manual. they should have manuals for most cars. if its anything like our library, they will be reference only so you wont be able to take them home!

Depends where you are-ours are all available for loan.

I've refered to Haynes manuals, but they don't have a version about the Diesel 1.7TD engine... just the petrol engines... so if anybody could give step by step hints like, loose the top belt by doing this.... then the botton belt by doing that... hehe... sorry guys, absolutely beginner... thank you all once more.

I changed mine a few years ago and there's nothing too cpomplex about it.
This is all from memory of a job that I did a few years ago. You're also righ tin that there's not a Haynes manual for the car engine combination.
Like most alternators there's three bolts that hold it in place. One of these also controls the fan belt adjustment.
Lossen this one first and then slacken the other two. The fan belt is then easy to remove.
The only tricky thing is the oil feed that's on there. There's two copper washers, one either side and I can't remember the exact details, but make sure you put the copper washers back in place, failure to do so will result in oil being spread everywhere.

Always worth disconnecting the battery earth lead first before you have spanners going near electrical contacts ...... once you've tracked down the radio code etc.

It's nearly always a circuit fault that's at the root of the failure on these; just replacing the alternator itself will often just ruin the new one.
Get the system checked by an auto-sparks.
