"And in cutting his car in two, he managed to put both himself at risk and also a number of bystanders - along with ourselves, the police had to be called and the fire brigade, as he set fire to the car while cutting it in two."

Rearrange the letters in "communications manager" to spell "pompous jobsworth".
What is the word that means "to emit hot air and blather in mock astonishment"?

it gets better: more details from the this is gloucestershire website:

quote:
A worker from NCP Services called the police to report that [the car owner] was waving a chain saw in the air.
Police say: "On police attendance the man was using a disc cutter and attempting to cut his own car in half, following a civil dispute with the DVLA. He was not threatening anyone with the disc cutter and there will be no further police action."
end quote

it gets better:
It does, doesn't it!
JP> "He took it upon himself to commit a serious act of vandalism.
But the car was Ian Taylor's own property... the clamp wasn't harmed.
JP> "This demonstrates very vividly the important work NCP Services and the DVLA do in keeping drivers off the road.
No it doesn't. Ridiculous.
JP> "He put himself at risk and he put other people at risk.
JP> "The car could have exploded. It was dangerous and highly irresponsible and
JP> a massive overreaction. "Most normal motorists would be worried about a man
JP> on the roads who cut his own car in two just to make a point.
What a load of codswallop.

Was there any fuel in the line from the tank to the engine?
|
NCP is not an admirable organisation.
I like nutters of this sort. Their crazed thought processes and extreme energy give me a warm feeling that all is not lost, that we are still human.
|
>I like nutters
he obviously is one judging by the photos of him using that MONSTER disc cutter with no goggles. And a posed shot too.
edited to say that this was a match of Nutter vs. Pompous Pratt. Ended in a 1 all draw, both own goals.

I like people like this, too, anyway far preferable to dopey clampers who can't tell a Stihl disc saw (poss. TS400) from a chin one. I didn't actually see hin use the thing, are there pics. somewhere?

2 photos - scroll through the photos on the gloucester website.

Ooh! It *is* a Stihl 400! Nice tool!

Why clamping is not illegal in England while it is so in Scotland??
|
Seems we may only have had half the story so far...:-)
|
Couldn't agree more Stuarli! If it was only inches over his boundary, surely the clampers would have been trespassing?
|
Must be a "quiet news day"!
|
Trespassing. So what. Civil offence only.
|
|
|
"If it was only inches over his boundary,"
As usual things perhaps are not always quite what is claimed
"James Pritchard, communications manager for NCP Services, said clamping staff had photographs to prove that half the car was on the public pavement."
BBC Gloucester
Still its a good story & sells a few papers

>>
The photo I saw on the news ( supplied by NCP ) showed a few inches between the inside of the tyre and the line at the boundary of the parking area.
So something closer to 12 inches on the ground and say 15 inches plus to include the bodywork. Still its a good story & sells a few papers
>>
Sure does. The "two inches story is being taken up :-)
From USA Today"British man cuts 'booted' car in half"
|
I seem to remember that the NCP man claimed 'half the car' was on the public road.
Split the difference between 'a couple of inches' and 'half the car' and it probably would come out at about 15 inches...

>>
Is that a question or a statement?
|
Actually, clamping does still occur in Scotland on behalf of the DVLA for tax avoidance, so it could just as easily have happened up here. It's only private clamping which has been outlawed north of the border.
|
And, actually, you can cause Criminal Damage to your own property in certain circumstances. According to the report it appears that those circumstances were (possibly, allegedly etc) fulfilled.
Further reading in Criminal Damage Act 1971 and associated case law.

will he now have to declare it sorn in half ?
|
very good, zookeeper LOL!
|
A bit more info.
TV showed the clampers photo of the car with the corner & wheel over the magic line.
Apparently the snatch wagon must not damage the vehicle but it is not able to deal with two halves.
IIRC they have recovered the clamp.
The two lumps have now gone to the scrap yard and the owner has at least avoided the cost of them moving his vehicle and charging storage etc.
Will this be the start of a new chopper craze? :-)
|
I'm suddenly reminded of that old Laurel and Hardy film, where they drive their car through a circular saw at a saw mill. The blade passes between them, but they don't notice until the car splits off in two directions, and then collapses on the ground.
