Birds - Ben 10
I'm referring to the feathered variety. Sorry.

I clean the cars once a week if possible;I have recently been bombarded with bird pooh almost daily for the past two weeks.
I can't afford the time and money to clean the cars everyday, so can anyone give some tips as to how best to remove the mess.

I know if left long enough it will eat into the paintwork, so any advice would be much appreciated.

one tip would be to avoid parking under trees , particularly ones with berries on especially at this time of year

The cars are parked on a paved driveway. No trees around. Think they are flying from roof tops and letting go as they fly over. Possibly nesting somewhere.

You could try a simple car cover for a few quid from Halfords or similar? Good in winter too as it reduces glass scrapery in the mornings.

I used to have to park under a tree. Kept a damp chamois in a plastic bag in the boot for emergency poo removal.

I carry a small bottle of water and baby wipes in glovebox. Just pour water over the poo to soften it up (so you don't scratch the paint) and very gently dab your baby wipe over the poo.

This has just reminded me of an embarrassing motoring tale. Couple of years ago I was on a business trip to Germany. I had hired a car which turned out to be a split new, straight-off-the-transporter shiny black metallic, Opel Vectra estate. Drove it around for a couple of days and then parked it at my hotel for a couple more while attending a meeting. It was under a large tree. Well, I don't know what these tutonic birds had been eating, or whether something had made them especially nervous but I promise you there was not a square inch ( or even cm ) of horizontal surface of that car which was not encrusted with the most foul ( boom boom ) of gloop. It was also very hot weather and so had sort of welded on to the paintwork. When I got back to the airport the guy from the car hire office was in the car park and saw me arrive. Now, I speak pretty fluent German but I'm sure I learned a few new phrases that day. Never dared to ask any of my German friends what they mean though !

A variation on sony's recommendation:

Place a wet sheet of kitchen roll over the "problem" leave it for a few minutes and it will part company with the paintwork very easily. If you get a chance, polish and wax the roof and bonnet to make it even easier.

Once spent a night in a deckchair with a shotgun. I was waiting for a mole which had evaded all other forms of annihilation. Fell asleep.

You or the mole ?

The mole was clearly younger and fitter. Or at least had more stamina for nocturnal excursions. Got him eventually with one of those firework smoke canister things you shove down the hole.

Trying desperately to think of how bring this back to motoring. This mole hunt took place at my old house which was on the A701 Auchendinny to Moffat road, also known as the "Devil's Beeftub" road. One of the best driving roads in Britain in my view. Plenty of twists and turns, ups and downs but with excellent sight lines and relatively light traffic. Could get a bit interesting in Winter sometimes though. If anyone is approaching Edinburgh from Carlisle-ish it is well worth getting off the motorway at Moffat and going this way. Just as quick as the more obvious A702 and more fun in my opinion.

Plenty of interesting birds of prey to be seen also, but you will probably be going quickly enough to avoid being caught in any of their bombing raids.
There, managed to get a ref. to the OP in as well. ;-)

Thanks Neil,

Worked a treat. Saves me washing every 5 minutes. Insider tip. Buy shares in kitchen paper manufacturer; I think I'm going to be busy over the summer!

Thanks all for your responses.

Moles are accurate timekeepers. They may vary from place to place, but in West Sussex the times to get them are 11 am and 4.30 pm, when they can be seen shoving fresh earth out of their hills. Point blank with a 12 bore, mind your toes...

i jut got a brand new cabriolet you just know before the end of summer some bird is going to get right on target and im going to have to spend a saturday with a cloth and upholstry cleaner

If you give it a good Autoglym waxing the poo wont 'stick' as well.

Lud,

As one non-motoring post to another, I've known moles to be dug out with a spade, but you have to be quick.

Best get back to cars quick, too, or one of us will be in for a telling off.

Wind in the willows. D'yer think that'll do, as long as we don't mention the flatulence?

Keep a detailing spray such as Meguiars Quick Detailer in the boot along with a microfibre drying towel.

Squirt the offending material with spray, then simply wipe.
