Hi my wife has a 2002 2.7td terranoII and when you take off in first gear the car has started juddering ok in other higher gears until you start changing down into 2nd is quite feirce, is this a clutch problem ??

Could be oil contamination, giving the clutch a gentle 'work out' by slipping it on a hill may effect a cure - unless your car has the dreaded dual mass flywheel, it could be a problem with that.

No dual mass flywheel on this vehicle. The clutch is either oil-contaminated from a leak or the clutch itself is failing.
There might be a small rubber plug at the base of the bellhousing. Removing this could drain water if you'ver driven through a lot of deep fords or oil may dribble out indicating a leak.
Whatever, the clutch needs to be examined which is not too difficult once the propshafts are released but gearbox and transfer box are heavy.

thanks for your advise
