Media comments suggest that the Dept for Transport could make its announcement on regional road pricing trials on 15th May (it was delayed from the turn of the year). The one proposed for Manchester will be the world's largest scheme if introduced and will saddle the region with £1.8bn of debt to repaid to be re-paid through charges.
Even if you don't live in or near Manchester, with the scheme being a test-bed for national road pricing, the proposals affect you. If you do live in the area, I urge you to find out where your local councillors stand on the issue if up for re-election. Three of the 10 councils involved have already said they oppose the scheme with a fourth promising a referendum.

Government run/sponsored + computers involved = recipe for disaster and a vast waste of public funds! Just look at Passports, Criminal Records Bureau, Tax credits, NHS Patient's Records. The writing is on the wall as we speak!

All these consultants don't give Labour donations for nothing.
They're running out of work and need an order for another fiasco to fill their order book.
Cynical? Moi?

Norwich was one of the cities given government funding to look into road pricing and it was recently announced that the cost of running such a scheme here is not cost effective and money would be better spent building another road to ease congestion:

It seems logical to me that if you have a whole load of extra population (wherever they originate from) in the countryside around Norwich, working the fields, you're going to have to build new roads for them to drive on!
|
How can the extra population working the fields afford petrol, let alone cars?

"How can the extra population working the fields afford petrol, let alone cars?"
Keep up!
That's what Tax Credits are for.

Sorry. Sorry. Though it may not look like it, I'm doing the best I can with the limited resources available to me!

Thought after that 1 million signature petition the idea was taken off the agenda. Another way to fleece the man on the street what with the road tax hike for most people, outrageous fuel costs, fuel duty, fuel V.A.T, Tax on fuel companies profits. We are are a nice little milch cow.
Seriously though this is becoming a horrible place to live. George Orwell must be looking down up there with a knowing smile.

If they go through with this I will seriously consider getting one of those cycle cars that are popular in other countries, atleast then ill avoid all those costs :-)
