1999 SX How much for a replacement Blue Key? - carl24488
Hi, hopefully this will be a quick easy question...

My girlfriend has just sold her 1999 Seicento SX, but has lost her spare blue key. The new owner is collecting the car today and I just wondered how much it would cost to get a new one cut? I can't get it done myself so i'm going to knock the price off the cost of the car...

Thanks, Carl

Also, i know it would be easier for me to just ring someone up who could give me a price, but unfortunately i'm stuck at work and making personal calls is deeply frowned upon! Just need a rough idea.

Does she have the red key?

No she doesnt, it didnt come with one, not actually sure what one is?

Red key is the master key. I believe that only with that, can new blue keys be coded to the immobiliser.

Best tell the new owner that. If the only remaining blue key is lost or damaged....

It was drummed into every new owner not to loose the red key.

"Best tell the new owner"

Unless the new owner is a friend, I'd keep my gob shut. Buyer beware and all that!

AFAIR you can get a blue key _cloned_ by lock and key specialists for about 30UKP.

Another John H, yes you can get the blue cloned, that's what we did about 8 years ago, for about £35 at a local locksmith.

It should have as it was a requirement that all cars made from the mid 1990's onwards had to have one.

I seem to recall some years ago reading in these forums that Fiat owners who had lost one of their car keys were flabbergasted at the high cost of a replacement.

I thought there was a code unique to the red key, that the dealer needed for certain ECU issues?

Perhaps a replacement blue, is enough at 9 years old.
I thought all Seicento`s had immobilisers though
Our S reg had.

Good luck

Thanks for all the advice, managed to sneak out for a break and phoned a company who informed me there are two types of keys. If my gfs originally had a red key, it will cost £60/70 to replace, if not, only £30, so i'm hoping on that one!

I have a 1999 SX Seicento. It does not have the red/blue keys like older Fiats, it has two blue keys. I'm not sure how much they cost, but I know main dealers will charge a fortune to reprogram a new key.

I was in a Fiat dealer once and somebody was asking for a new key to be programmed. I think it was £30 or £50 just to program it, but it's a 5 minute job, if you search the net you will probably find out how to do it. I think it was the same again for the key itself.

Current Fabia, £125 for a remote. Current Hyundia i30 (which only comes with one to start with) about £145. Even a non-remote for this car costs £57. Why on earth do these keys cost so much?

My wife's Seicento is a 2001 model (51 plate) with two blue keys. No need for a red key.

We once misplaced one blue key so I looked into what we needed to do to get another. It turns out with two blue keys it's fairly easy and straight forward. I cannot remember how much but...

... only one blue key and you need to take the car and blue key to the dealer and get a new key and all reprogrammed. This was a bit more (think about £100 or that sort of ball park).
