02 1.9TDi - Re Mapping - Paddyboy
Can anyone tell me what the disadvantages are to re mapping a Passat 100 TDI PD to 130 BHP. Is there a different Turbo in the standard 130 , different gearbox etc. Will I blow something if I do it? Or is th only difference in the two cars the way VW maps them in the factory?

I asked my local VW Audi specialist the difference between the 100 & 130 ps versions.
Partly the mapping but different injectors as well.

Which model Passat is it, the latest shape or the one before?

I believe the engine block and major components are similar between the 100 & 130bhp variants, but injectors are different and the turbo may be slightly different.

I know two people that have had Passat B5.5 models remapped by a company called Upsolute, with no problems and very positive feedback on extra grunt, etc. It's unlikely you will blow anything, literally hundreds of members of Audi, VW, Seat & Skoda boards have had remaps done on PD motors with no problems.

The clutch can be a weak point, some get slip after a remap, others don't. Depends how brutal you are with the throttle and the specific map.

Around 30% increase in bhp would appear to be the choice of most remappers, certainly the well known ones who have a reputation (of sorts) to consider. As Craig says, the most stressed part will be the clutch and I've been advised to avoid giving it full beans at 1,000 revs just to show off the torque as this will in time lead to the early demise of the clutch and flywheel. Reading the VAG forums the amount of remaps is amazing with very few issues and those issues are mainly clutch and flywheel with a few rough runnings from cheap and cheerful remaps or tuning boxes bought on ebay for £20!

for feedback from the other weekend's chip n spin.

Also, look here to pop questions to the remapper who did it...

I have had mine done (different engine), and it is much better, mpg is the same as far as I can tell, maybe better on long runs, and drive-ability is much more relaxed and sedate, as the car accelerates much better in high gears/low rpm, so less down-changing of the auto-box. This probably puts less strain on many parts.
