On M8 yesterday morning, a brand new 08 plate Jaguar, the new model - XF?
Stuck on the mirror was one of those cheap and nasty blind spot mirrors that you get out the £1 shop or similar!

Pay all that money, have beautiful gear knobs that rise out the console, all the other toys and then go and do that with it! How could he!!! Surely it would have the blindspot thing built into the mirror anyway!

Aaaargh!

People like that should be made to clean public toilets with their tongues. Then they'd really know all about bad taste!

On a related note, has anybody else noticed that the new Jag looks almost exactly like a Mondeo from the back? Hopefully the new owners won't make the next model look exactly like a Tata!

Cheers.

I've had a drive of the diesel version. Love the looks and the low key, tasteful bling, it doesn't quite do it for me in the same way as my dear departed 535. Just can't put my finger on it. It hasn't been inspiring enough to write it up on here even.....no problem with a blind spot, may be stature of the driver that might be an issue.I would say that ergonomically it was better than the BMW.

I have great taste of course.

Does anybody know where I can get me one of those solid gold tissue boxes to go on the parcel shelf?

No BBD, but I've got a lovely maroon velvet one with sort of ogyval early Islamic windows and a whole lot of rhinestones...

I have to agree that ordinary RV mirrors are frightfully boring though, providing as they do (being slightly convex) a comprehensive view of everything they are supposed to show. If only they were tinted and concave, with bevelled edges and the words 'beer' and 'wine' engraved on them in gold-filled letters as on the windows of a posh Edwardian boozer... that would be far more of a challenge, and would raise a smile whenever one's eye fell on them.

I used to do a collossal mileage until a few years ago, and during that time I developed severe right hand side neck pain due to constantly checking over my shoulder when overtaking/changing lanes, since both wing and door mirrors had bad blind spots. The same had happened to my Old Man when he did high mileage in his business career.
As soon as I found and fitted these add on mirrors, and stopped having to turn my head hundreds of times a day, all of my neck aches and pains went away. Built in overtaking mirrors fitted in the door mirror whould be the answer but when I use those when fitted in American hire cars I always find them a tad disconcerting since they generally give a false impression as to where other cars may actually be.

I have them on the van. The alternative is having to put your head into the right corner of the dash and rotate it by 180 degrees on the sliproad.

While that may be fine for a turkey,
The thing is your head tends to fuse to your neck as you get older and its best to keep it facing forward.

(referring only to me;)

And I bet that having paid over £30k for the car, he couldn't afford to fit a hands-free kit for his mobile.............................

you have to admire his mindset though. Function over form, very refreshing to find these days ;)
