Red? aaaargh!
Get it properly cleaned, and slap on a multitude of UV protected polish! Red is a pig when it starts to fade!

I had one for 3 years as a company car.

Alternator failures are common. The alternator and servo are in one unit I think (perhaps its the PAS) and are VERY expensive.

The wiring to the alternator is dodgy but easily fixed.

The Ballast resistor for the blower fails regularly.

Ive never found one that goes straight when the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position. They always seem to pull to one side.

Vibration at tickover from the engine is terrible.

If the starter motor goes remember to replace the ignition switch. Or it will fail again quickly.

The clutch tends to get heavy and rattly.

The external temperature sensors break regularly.

Brakes wear out very quickly esp. when compared to my Mondeo.

Engines are very strong as long as you keep the oil topped up.

Make sure it hasnt been in a bump.

Vauxhall dealers are very poor.

Economy 35mpg. 40mpg if you stick to 70mph. You might as well have a petrol

Those sporty aloys have expensive tyres which only last about 10k on the front.

Electric windows get sluggish and real slow.

Never seen a faded red one mind.

Personally I wouldnt bother getting one. I used to hate mine with a passion.

Yep. mine went as well - symptom: light stays on, even when you take the key out the ignition.

No prob with mine - except on obvious cambers

Had no problems with mine, which is an auto.

Mine are 195/65x14s - quite bobbish, but seem to last longer than 10k

Agreed. Need proper maintenance - especially round the fuzzy stuff they use for sealing.

The price seems a bit high to me.

Who was the lease company?

Ian, do you agree with the fuel economy I quoted?

Keith, maybe you should have taken a trip to the garage and sort your tracking out every so often ;) then you might have found tyres did 40k+ and it didnt pull off, though i must say the astra has s***e handling and if you take corners harshly you will go through tyres rather quick, as for the engine you shouldnt get to many problems though leese cars have usually been raped and abused engine wise, astra`s are prone to warped brake discs, i would have them changed soon as i bought a second hand one, also make sure you change the timing/fan belt. As for fuel mine does 48 mpg at 70 and around town 40ish, great car, great engine, lame handling.

As usual change the cambelt now, OR, do it when the head gasket blows, around 70,000mls.
Still sounds about £1000 too dear!
