2004 1.9dCi - how does the gear knob come off? - DP
Just had a "full works" valet done on both cars, and both have scrubbed up beautifully. However, it has thrown the Scenic's worn gearknob into even sharper focus. It lets the whole interior down, and I want to replace it.

Problem is I can't work out how it comes off. It doesn't seem to unscrew, and I can't find a grubscrew or any other fixing on it.

It's a 6 speed manual with a pull up collar to engage reverse (if that's relevant). I've checked the Haynes manual, and it's no help.

Anyone done this before?

Cheers

DP, not sure if you need to log in to view the above, however on this Renault forum there doesn't seem to be a conclusive method. The one that is suggested for 6 speed box is

"can be removed by turning 90 Deg anticlockwise then pulling off, as there are 2 shaped lugs which it is necessary to negotiate."

My Scenic also had the same problem - the silver on the gearknob was perished, I blamed my wife's nails!!

I would suggest looking on ebay. I bought a gear knob renovation kit for my megane for under a fiver. Now looks new again and i didnt even need to take the gear knob off ;) Good luck!
