Just as a point of interest,
there are a lot of cars in British waters today, as well as on our roads!
At this very moment, there are no less than 13 dedicated vehicle carrier ships around our coastline and in our ports, and this doesn?t include anything on ferries or general cargo boats.
In-bound there are 2 going to Sheerness, 2 to Southampton, 1 to Newcastle, 1 in Whitehaven, and 1 in a place called ?Gwalchmai? which I presume is wales! So it seems that the distribution area is fairly uniform over England.
Outbound, there is 1 going to each of these destinations: Santander, Zeebrugge, Bremmerhaven, Hamburg, Vigo, and Rotterdam.
Anybody like to speculate which makes are coming in and which makes are shipping out? Or is that too broad a question?

Ahh! ?? but at what point do these vehicles (built abroad ) and shipped here, become classed as a ?British? car? - is it at point of sale from a dealer or (very) first registration with DVLA ? ? If I were to import (for e.g ) an American Pontiac Firebird brand spanking -new from the states, (privately) would it be classed as an ?import? upon registration here or British? Like its European shipped ? in counter-parts.

Newcastle / South Shields will be Nissan mainly inbound X trail, Private imports from Japan Maxima for Russia ( crazy when you consider Russia and Japan are less than 60 miles apart in Siberia )possibly Subaru imports also.
Export Micra Quashai etc.
North shields will be VAG group Audi Seat etc.
Surprised only 1 ship for Newcastle as port unloads approx 10 vessels a week
Not sure what comes into Whitehaven as place is a time warp.
Maybe Model T's

There is a Gwalchmai in Anglesey but the ship would have a few problems getting there. it's on the old A5 near the middle of the island.
