Did a quick search and couldn't find anything, so...
I've noticed some new cameras at the eastern end of the M40 where it becomes the A40. Mounted in pairs like the average speed ones you see on M-way etc roadworks, and on yellow gantries with what looks like the Motorola logo. I think they are placed in sets of two, one pair facing and another pointing rearwards.
Are these new Big Brother tools in our surveillance-obsessed society, or merely suppliers of real-time traffic info to ordinary folk that have subscribed to a service?

What you describe as the 'Motorola' logo makes them sound like SPECS but the set up your describe does not! Are the cameras by the road or over individual lanes? It occurs to me that it could be another way of getting a vehicle's number, from the rear, if there is tailgating going on and the front plates cannot be seen. Would that these funds could be directed to something a little more worthwhile!

The gantries are at the side of the road, on the left. IIRC I saw two lots when I was going east. I noticed only one set coming back, but that was in the dark and pouring rain. I was doing no more than an indicated 75 at any time!

Yeah I drive through this section most mornings and noticed them too.
I wonder if it's something to do with the Low Emission Zone which starts at the slip road for the Swakeleys interchange.
They look exactly like SPECS cameras though.
Fortunately when I come along there, I'm lucky to be doing 50!

I'm pretty sure there was also a sign warning of upcoming roadworks at this spot. They have probably just installed the cameras early.

Roadwaorks... SPECS. Makes sense. I'll look forward to being delayed then. I did notice that the WB lane 2 (that becomes M40 lane 1) is badly 'furrowed' by HGV wheels, and elsewhere along there are some significant cracks and the odd pothole; maybe it's time for surface renewal.
