159 Diesel 2.4 vs 1.9 any thoughts - Galaxian
Hi all,

Not quite mid-life crisis territory, but I have been looking at 159 diesels, now
that there are a few 2nd hand ones about.

There are a couple of 2.4s at a local dealer, but I was thinking that a 1.9 would
be better - I don't fancy a petrol, too whiney.

Anyone with any experience of the two ?

Test drove the 2.4 a while back. Actually sounded quite nice for a diesel due to the 5 cylinders. Very strong urgent feeling engine, effortless overtaking grunt. Might have felt slightly nose heavy though, maybe the 1.9 would have been whippier. Interior was very nice on the "lusso" spec car I tried. Very tasteful. Loved the styling ..........no make that ...........adored the styling. Did I buy it ? No......bottled it until we see how they fare.

Really really really want one though in Sportwagon spec black metallic with tan leather.

The petrols are far from whiney - I'd go as far as to say that they're some of the best sounding four-pots on the market. They do have a remarkable thirst though, so the diesels do make sense in context. I've only been driven in a 156 diesel with the 1.9 lump and that sounded tremendous and seemed to have more than enough grunt.
