Have noticed that at standstill and at ver low speed, the steering on my car has a judder. It smoothes out very quickly once you set off, Ive only noticed it when parking etc.
Not sure if its worth bothering with or what would cause it, or if its normal?

Judders at standstill?
Don't have this on the Legacy.

I think I better pop down the dealer tomorrow then, see what we can see. It goes once your doing more than say 5 mph but then it could develop further - as it is it doesnt bother me but I dont want to let the warranty run out and then get a big bill!

I would check the tightness of the power steering belt first.

Nope, not noticed this on any of the three subarus we have or had.

Many thanks, not that id know the belt when I see it, had my first look under the bonnet today and its sure busy under there. Still think the engine looks so cool, no idea why!
Is the juddering likely just the belt slipping a bit when under the most load?

No problems on my Subaru, but on a vaux cavalier I once had there was a juddering through the steering when parking and it was the belt slipping. It also made a screech/drone sometimes when turning the wheel at low speed.

Any possibility it's the aircon compressor kicking in and out, loading and unloading the engine at idle?
|
|
Definately not the A/C as its been turned off since we bought it. It was happening today just short of full lock and also when its in Drive off dead centre. Also get a slight whine from the pump on ful lock but ive driven a few cars that do that.

We have a low mileage '04 BMW Compact in the office that had juddering like this - it needed a new rack (under warranty).
