took the car to be mot'd on saturday and it's failed on lamdba readings on fast idle test and 2nd fast idle test
The car has been sat for about six months, what would people suggest, a can of redex, a good ragging, then a retest?
the readings are as follows
fast idle test: FAIL
engine speed: NOT CHECKED
CO: <0.30%vol
0.00%vol PASS
HC: < 200ppm vol
84ppm vol PASS
lamdba: 0.970-1.030
1.147 FAIL
2nd fast idle test: FAIL
engine speed: NOT CHECKED
CO: <0.30%vol
0.00%vol PASS
HC: < 200ppm vol
48ppm vol PASS
lamdba: 0.970-1.030
1.130 FAIL
Natural idle test: PASS
engine speed: NOT CHECKED
CO: <0.50%vol
0.01%vol PASS
Overall Result: FAIL
thanks for any help offered paul

That's seriously weak.
Is the fuel 6 months old too?
|
yeh nothings been put into the car since either?
|
It might be worth running the tank down, then filling up with new fuel, and getting an emissions check done (rather than paying for another full MOT)
|
well i get a free retest within 10 working days of last sat
so just to make clear, run tank to virtually empty , fill up then get a retest
or would you do about but after filling up , put a can of redex in and give a good trashing?
thanks paul

could the reason the lamdba is high be because the other two readings are so low
emissions isn't my strong point?!?!?!?
|
Are there any air leaks in the exhaust manifold or pipes?
|
Give it a blast down the motorway.
|
ref holes in exhaust no, its passed everything on the mot except emissions

I'm no expert on these but it could be the lambda sensor itself.
I've had one go (not on a Corsa). I noticed becasue the engine wasn't quite as smooth or delivering quite the power it was. I looked up the pin out for the sensor on the internet and determined that the heating element was open circuit with a multimeter.
Performance (and hopefully the life of the cat) improved on replacement.

it does sound like its hunting on start up?!?
not a lot but it defo is?

Well the lambda sensor isn't used from cold start, so if it's hunting from cold then either it isn't the lambda sesnor, or there are two issues.

Check for an air leak into the inlet manifold, stuck EGR or EVAP valve - or a possible MAF sensor fault.
|
My Corsa has just failed on emissions alone. Had it checked by a specialist exhaust centre and they reckon the CAT is fine; it had a new Lambda sensor last year so I don't think it can be that causing the problem. I have wondered if the garage might be trying to pull a fast one...

Did it fail on natural idle, fast idle or both?
What were the figures.
