2002 tdci - juddering at 2000 revs - andystu
Hi, I have a friend who has a problem with a Ford Mondeo 2002 2.0TDCI 130ps engine. The car appears to drive fine and pulls away with no problem. When you accelerate to approx 55mph in fifth gear then come come off the revs and sit with your foot barely touching the throttle at approx 1950 revs, the engine appears to become very lumpy, juddering infact, as if you were peppering the throttle. If you accelerate up to 2100 revs, the problem clears and it drives fine. It does this in any gear at around 1950 revs. I've heard people mention problems with flywheels, was wondering if this was a symptom or whether yhis is some kind of elctronic problem? I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but advise would be appreciated and perhaps some idea of cost to put it right.
Many thanks,
Andy Stu.

IIRC there was a software fix for roughness around 1800-2000 rpm. Although if it has just started doing it and was fine previously it could be something else. Get fault codes read.

Thanks Kith, for the input! No fault codes showing by the way. Just thouhgt I would update the site in the hope that it may help someone else at some stage. We found a split hose from the EGR valve 2.5inch. Got new hose. Works a treat!!

Andy.

I also have a 52 plate Mondeo 2.0 Tdci Zetec and I'm experiencing the same problem as your friend at 2000rpm. I have recently replaced the pipe connecting the airbox to the turbo with a Ford origional part and ever since the car judders like mad between 1950 and 2050rpm. The pipe which you replaced... Where abouts under the bonnet is it?

Please help as it's simply annoying as 2000rpm is where that car is at most of the time... 30mph in 4th = 2000rpm... 60mph/70mph in 5th = 2000rpm.

Many Thanks

Such a long time ago you wrote about the mk3 mondeo missing juddering at 2000rpm, I know this is a long shot but didi you ever find the cause of the problem? I drive tdci 130ps great car but started this problem after I got the injectors done up

A friend of mine was experiencing the a similar problem with a Peugeot 307 and that turned out to be the DMF, I think they must develop a bit of slop which allows movement when no under load.
