I have been toying with changing my car - I can normally keep this phase going for about a year, so no rush. However I've actually suspended this usually enjoyable speculation out of frustration - most of the websites I've looked at for specs/list prices are unbelievably slow.
Fine if you have a real 8mb connection but mine is lucky to reach 500kb. Bonkers. At the very least they would have much greater reach if there was a low graphics/no-flash version of these sites for folk with slow connections (never mind dial up) who just want information?
The marketing people must live in a fantasy world. Is it me?

Not just you.
I can't load the Honda one at work (it assumes everyone has flash), and the Toyota one makes my computer crash.

Don't get me started on this one! Look at VW's new website for starters. Practically everyone with whom I have communicated, says it is slow even with some fancy broadband speeds.

Its you - I can't wait to see the Flash Mediad representation of a car I'm not likely to buy. As for "car configurator" (what kind of made up word is that ?) don't start me off !

The VW site was actually the straw that broke this camel's back.

I've just tried VW and Honda, Honda was fine, and VW was reasonable (slightly slow). I get about 5.5Mb/s and have a brand new computer. Some of the interfaces can be take a while to navigate though, it can take a lot of clicking and waiting to scroll to the car you want.
One of the other frustrating things is that different manufacturers seem to display different information. Eg. some sizes include wing mirrors, some don't and some don't have any size information at all.

The VW Flash based website is pretty flash. Have to wait a few seconds for each part to load. I have no problem on a 4Mbit/s connection.

Well I'm not moving house just so I can use their websites! We're too far from the exchange to have any chance of more than 1Mb, and no cable option.

I was very impressed by the VW website.
I found it one of the most professional looking and useful websites I have used. Undoubtedly you do need a fast connection and computer to make it work smoothly.

Just retried them it wasn't the Toyota one which caused me grief (sorry Toyota) - it was the VW one; specifically their used car search.

I also hate sites which run video (with sound) without asking permission - I often listen to something else in the background, and immediately leave any site which tries to take over my soundcard. Usually the Telegraph motoring section, but the Landrover site does the same.
