02 1.8SE : ignition delay when cold - stevel
When the temperature is below 7c, it can take up to 10 seconds for the ignition lights to come on after turning the key to ignition. This only happens the first time I attempt to start the car. A couple of other people are having the same problem (What Car and RAC motoring forums), but neither has had a definitive solution. Hoping to have more luck here.

I have a 51 01 1.8SE+ with exactly the same problem.

It began last December. The only thing that came up on a check was that the battery was ok but not fully charged. Alternator ok so no reason for that. The dealer suggested earth problem or maybe ignition switch.

Because the battery was the original (and I needed the car to keep going) I changed it but I still have the problem. It's weird because the car starts just when you think it won't turn over.

I don't think it happens much above 3 or 4c but it does sound like the same problem.

I'm replying to my own post in the hope that pushing the query back up the queue will get a response.

Now the weather's warmer there's no problem. No-one got a thought?
