Just had an e-mail to tell me that the tax on my bike is about to expire - brilliant idea !

That is novel and very useful. How did they get your e mail address? Had you signed up for the service or did they find it on a missing Government data CD or laptop?

I think it was a less sinister than that, I gave them it whilst taxing the fleet online over the last couple of years. (What's that nose ? oh - only a black unmarkled helicopter with mirrored glass !)

I just got one too. An excellent idea, especially if you could opt out of the paper version which I also received the day before. My only complaint is that they remind you too early, I'd like to renew there and then so I don't forget but I have to wait until the 15th of the month and the reminder came on the 7th.

A bit of enterprise from the DVLA e-mailing reminders.

Maybe not

The on-line Road tax renewal is an external contractor - paid by the number of transactions processed (same as Post Office get a fee) - it is the contractor that is more likely to be doing the e-mailing - seems just a bit to clever/well thought out for a Govt Agency.

I get two reminders ~ a form through the post and a disc on the windscreen!

Well I never, a second e-mail, saying that they may have had the 16 digit number incorrect in the first....interesting.

Just be equally as finicky - its a tax for my bike and it hasn't got a windscreen :-)

Had the same reminder as PU.

The first was addressed Dear Customer, the second Dear surname.

Vaguely remember that as the approved style between senior officers when I first joined re Civil Service in 1978.

got one as well and like Nick I think it would be better on or after the 15th so that you could renew it at the time you get the reminder and not have a chance to forget about it again ,good idea though

Probably a learning curve from the contractor.....

The Contractor might be cleverer than you think!

One e-mail 3 weeks before the end of the month and another say 1 week to go.

After all there is virtually no cost - they will have a script / report writer to extract all RFL reminders due for the end of the month. The 2nd report/script will be the same but with 1 x extra line to onit those who have already renewed.
