Hello
Practicality question - considering a Celica on 51 plate. Can they get a car seat in the rear?

no chance
and dont get one with leather seats cos the toe rags will nick em
friend had her front seats nicked several times, and windows smashed so they could get in to take em, wished she has cloth seats so much...

By car seat, I meant Childs Car Seat.
Didnt realise people would actually break into steal seats?!

welcome to browns britain
yep those seats are very popular with toe rags

First thing our Celica owning neighbour did when finding out his wife was pregnant was get rid of the car. Totally impractical.
|
And I truly believe that! I had a Saab 95 estate and even that wasn\'t big enough to get the pushchair in, the child seat, SWMBO, the spare bags with nappies and clothes, the other spare bag with bottles and food, and the other with toys etc. The poor dog had to sit in the front passenger seat floor!
So if the Celilca is to be the main car - forget it and become a family car driver!

Normally i don't subscribe to these sites, but having been on the other side of the coin, looking for car seats for a Celica i needed to join to just set the record straight. My wife has an '03 plate Celica which we were desperate not to sell when we had our baby this year. After a long and fruitless search i did the most obvious thing (in hindsight) and actually contacted Toyota. Much to my shock they do in fact sell car seats for babies, from birth all the way up to the point they no longer need a seat!!!
The seat they sell for newborns is the European version of the Britax model, branded Romer. THis fits into the back seat, in the deep bucket, perfectly and is better than the Britax as the model has a slightly smaller back section allowing the seatbelt to fit. We got it checked and approved by Mothercare so its legit!
WE ordered it from the Toyota garage, for a not so bad price of £116 and now means we have a second available car. For those Celica owners reading this you will know they have a massive boot and i can safely say that having this seat and the big boot means this is almost as practical as my Golf!
WE are about to return to Toyota for the next model up, for the 9kg and upwards section, so for all those looking to sell their Celica i say wait!! Go to your local dealer and buy a car seat from them! Unless of course you want to buy ours which has in fact only been used twice! (if anyone does, post me a reply!)

Chris. Informative first post, please don't let it be your last. I've got a soft spot for Celicas and maybe one day ....

hi there
i realise this thread is quite old but is this guy still around?
i have a 52 reg celica, which was saved up for and purchased a mere 3 months before finding out my gf was pregnant. i decided against most advice to get rid of my dream and kept it, stating that although it aint the most practical car for a kids seat, it isn't impossible.
we purchased an 'avant' 3 in one pram/ pushchair/ car seat from toys r us and there was no problem in having the baby seat in the back, we did have to use the stand-thing to keep it in place, but this wasn't a problem.
my lad is now just over a year old and we're needing to upgrade to a proper car seat and thanks for this post, it has calmed my girlfriend down who was insisting i'd need to buy a new motor....
i have done a look on the net, what is the MODEL name of this Britax/ Romer car seat that sits in the back of my motor please? there are a few and i'd like to be sure i purchased the right one. i have thought about getting it directly from Toyota but was hoping to find it cheaper somewhere on the net.;

I have an 03 celica and a 19 month old boy. Thought I was going to have to be a family car driver until I read the last couple of postings. Tried to find the Romer seat that was mentioned by came up short, so I thought i'd give mothercare a whirl!!! The seat that fits in either of the rear seats on a celica is a Britax Evolver. I've just bought one from Mothercare for £109, which is a lot cheaper than changing my car!! Hope this helps.

thank you for this...
i too have just been and bought one today, toys R us for £100. fits comfortably with no movement.
ps toyota will tell you to buy a 'duo plus' as their 'recommended choice' THIS DOES NOT FIT. be careful.

Hi All
I realise it's a very long time ago but just wondering if you could offer any more advice or better still a web link for a newborn baby car seat to fit in a 02 Celica. Local Toyota dealership unable to advise. They only have information on group two car seats - nothing for newborn.
Many thanks!

When my husband pulled around to pick me up from our birthing class 5 years ago, people laughed at the notion that we thought we'd be able to keep our car with a baby on the way. Five years later, we have TWO car seats in the ole Celica. The 5 year old is in a Britax Roundabout 55 convertible car seat (rear facing in it until 3.5 and now facing forward), and the baby is in a Chicco KeyFit 30. It's really not too much of a hassle getting them in and out.

Thanks so much for your reply. I was beginning to loose hope and thought the Celica really would have to go! Renewed hope!
