Not sure why £3,000 is a funny amount, wifes car cost £2,600 less £600 trade last summer and only one problem in that time - failure of coil packs that was covered under warranty. On the other hand my previous car was purchased from a main dealer at a cost of £6,000 but was the most unreliable car I had.
Car is costing just over £3,200 and is a Bora 1.9 TDI Sport 6 speed and is from a member of the family, so I Know the car has been looked after and is in very good condtion.

No doubt it is a lovely car, I like the boras. I was just stating the views I have gathered whilst on the forums. But I think they were refering to turbo diesels

Appologies if I missunderstood.

I'd considered a warranty for my 126K Golf, but gave up as the cost seemed to outweigh the potential benefits.
I'm just glad I have a local garage that services the fleet at work who does me a good deal (£30p/h, not everything charged) and is actually reliable....
Makes sure you keep it serviced on the nail and use the correct PD oil and you should get another 80K or so out of it at least - is it a PD engine - what age is it? for £3K I would expect at least a 51/52 reg (well, a 54 reg 130 Highline went for £3,075 at auction a couple of months ago), so either a PD115 or PD130???
