I'm glad I live in Scotland which only has the DVLA clampers to worry about!

Though some residents were actualy in the wrong, I do think that England & Wales should follow Scotland's lead and ban clamping by anyone except DVLA (who only do it if SORN has been badly abused or tax not paid for months).

If I was one of the clampers I would have called the police.

The threat of arrest for wrongful imprisonment or something like that would have soon got the residents cars moved!

I guess the residents have the clamping scheme because they complained about unauthorised parking so its their own fault!

They probably had something to hide (no licence, etc)

Living in Southend it has been interesting to see the sudden increase in the desire by estate management companies in the Borough to impose parking regimes backed up by clampers who suddenly appear within days or hours of the start of the scheme and before residents have received permits and that seem designed to inconvenience and catch the residents out for some quick easy pickings. Wouldn't suggest for one minute that this is being seen as a nice new revenue stream.......

On this occasion it would seem that the residents managed to force the hands of the management company to force a refund, others weren't quite so fortunate.

It also seems that the more vocal the residents the better they get their way in how their estate parking is being managed.

The links below give an idea of the background.

By the way, haven't really thought of the Vision estate being 'exclusive', I think I would want a better view from my 'exclusive' apartment than the local bus garage and the railway sidings at Southend Victoria station, but each to their own......

Yikes, looking at the photo of the people involved are we sure the authorities weren?t trying to lock up the residents.

Is it really a block of flats and not a prison?

....and of course, there is the obligatory "I had to get my kid/granny/Mum/Dad/dog/cat (delete as appropriate) to the doctor/hospital/dog fight club" (delete as appropriate)

But, again, people will extract the Michael when it comes to parking. Got a parking space but two or three cars? use someone elses space, got a space and a garage? and two cars? fill the garage with junk and use someone elses parking space.

Cannot count the times my daughter has got home from a long day at work to find some inconsiderate oik has parked in her clearly marked spot without even so much as a note or phone number. In my own block, some oik has dumped his Jag without tax in one of the 7 spaces. Been there since May 07. His wife has a car she parks in slot 2 of 7 spaces. Yes, they have a garage but filled with detritus from their home run business.

I tell you, I would love clampers to come visit!
