1990 325i 2.5 - medium pitch 'screech' on start up - R40
In the last couple of days the car has developed a medium pitch 'screech' on start up that last for two seconds immediately following engine start/key release. Once started the car drives fine.

I've yet to look and listen under the bonnet as can only get an assistant tomorrow. Grateful if anyone has had similar experience or can suggest a likely cause.

Thanks in advance.

doh! Many thanks I'll tighten the belt up and take it from there.

Thanks also to DD for sorting out the heading.

Most likely a fan belt as suggested. You could also check the power steering belt, although these normally screech when loose, if a load is put on it, i.e. steering is on fullish lock.

Also in my experience belts screech more in winter than summer. Probably due to dew and moisture about first thing in the morning.

Tightening the belt sorted the issue. Many thanks to all for advice.
