P reg - How do I know which 1.7 diesel I have? - jonnyderwent
i have an astra 1.7td p reg can anyone tell me if it it a gm or isuza engine as i have no books with this car thanks

On that year you could have either. Look at the block, just behind the rad, where it bolts to the clutch housing for the engine code.

It's a long time since I've seen one; but I've a feeling that the GM unit has the pump at the front and the Isuzu is at the rear.

Am I right in remembering the Isuzu has 2 air filters?

The GM engine has the fuel injection pump and injectors on the front side of the engine (as you look). In the case of the Isuzu they're fitted at the rear.

The GM engine has the word 'DIESEL' on the rocker cover. The Isuzu has the word 'TURBO' in red letters.

The Isuzu engine does appear to have two air filters. In fact though it only has one. The box on the o/s inner wing does not contain a filter element......
