105E Back axle - maybug
Is Comma Gear oil high performance semi synthetic SX75W-90 OK for my 105E Hypoid Differential? Comma technical dept unable to confirm, just spent out on new crown wheel and pinion plus all bearings and the oil, Does anyone know?

In days gone by, this would have been filled or topped up with the standard EP90 oil that was used in virtually all car rear axles. Now though, there's much more variety in gear oils than there used to be.

I would make sure that the oil you use is API GL5 (I don't think the oil you mention is), and I would probably just use a straight EP90.

Remember reading that with Heralds of this era if the diff showed signs of wear, whining etc, adding some sawdust to the oil did the trick.

I would NOT recommend it though I guess it had the effect of increasing the viscocity.

Perhaps it was a cowboys pre-sales trick, I dont recall.

old fashion plastic bag (not these modern ones though) was good, try the millers oil website they do oils for classics,you could try castrol as well

Surely it was designed to use straight EP90..

Read oilman's post about gear oil, it says more about the subject I can muster.

The magic word is hypoid.
