Laguna Brake Pads - Carl2
If I wish to change the front brake pads on a 1996 Laguna 1.8 is it ok to ease the brake pistons back . I have heard that on some cars fitted with abs (like this one) you should undo the caliper bleed nipple to avoid damage to the abs unit .

Carl,

Folks often advise clamping up a brake hose and opening the bleed nipple to easily move back the piston these days, then bleeding that section afterwards.

But on this car I would just remove the fluid filler cap and carefully lever back the piston.

Problem with the Laguna ABS is that you are supposed to take the car to Renault to go on the "diagnostic bleeder" after work on the system.

Having said that my trade ABS book gives the method for bleeding with normal equipment and only advises the diagnostic if you can't get a firm pedal.

Typically French, eh? Overcomplicated and fraught with danger on every corner :-)

sorry DJW ;-)
