It would appear that the wiper motor on my wife's Sharan has packed up, does anyone have an idea of the cost of replacing this please, parts and labour if possible.
Looks like its time to trade it in, nearly 80,000 on the clock and costs are starting to pick up now.

The wiper motor usually burns out because the wiper spindles seize. [They musn't ever get wet.]
To replace it you need a new wiper linkage assy [c£125-175] and a motor [c£80-120.]
There are different types and prices are very up and down; so it's difficult to predict exactly what your one will be. The only way to be sure is to ring the dealers and check against your reg or VIN number.

Thanks screwloose, getting it sorted at a local VW independent garage, not got a quote yet though.

if its the spindles you can strip and clean and regrease, its not to difficult to do if you are a little bit handy and don't fancy a large bill from the garage

The wiper linkages on these are usually totally fixable but usually require a large amount of heat (from a flame)to unseize the shafts before they can be cleaned, regreased and re-assembled.Also not a bad idea to replace the pollen/cabin filter while the wiper linkage is off the car and out the way.Replacement new parts are generally 15-20 % cheaper from Ford.hth

Hi Rats, had the same problem with my one. Stripped it down and cleaned it, greased all moving parts, works fine now. Biggest part was taking wiper arm off the pivot spindle almost seized on. Must have caught it just in time before burning the motor out. It took about 2hrs to do. Hope this helps, good luck, Sparky.

Unfortunately didn't have the time to try to fix myself, so copped a fairly hefty bill an an independent, just over £600 for motor and linkage.
Gonna get shot of it soon, don't want too many more big bills!!!
