id like to wire up a fake car alarm led ...but i want it to go off with the engine/ign on
any suggestion on how do this..cant see there being any ign off 12v lives?

If you connect a flashing LED via an appropriate resistor ( 330/470 ohms or so ) between permanent live feed like the cigarette lighter and the Ign on feed, the LED will flash when the ignition is off and as it will have two +12V feed when the Ign is on then it will not flash. However I can spot a flashing LED a mile off. An Led that flashes a short pulse and a long gap is usually associated to an alarm, an equal flashing LED is not and only a minor deterrent if at all. Why not fit an alarm that actually does something. Regards Peter

its only on few hundred pound banger....i figured it might deter someone , and sinse it costs me nothing why not

Why not wire a concealed switch into the starter solenoid circuit?
Don't ask me how to do it for your Polo however as it's a car I have rarely had to deal with.

just wired it up as per peters post ...works a treat thanks :)
doesnt really sound like have 12v up both wires would work but it does lol

Steve,
12v up both wires does not work that is the point. With Ign on both wires are fed 12v and the LED does not light. When you switch your ignition off the 12v ignition feed drops to 0v (effective ground) and therefore the LED works.

Wire across the feed to ignition switch and feed from switch to ign. system.
