I've seen a very tidy Pug 806 2L HDI 8 seater. I'm aware it's a smaller car than the Previa I curently have but wondered if anyone (even as a taxi) had experience 1) of using it as an 8 seater and 2) what the car is like in general?

Look at some of the back posts it won the carrot of the year award in germany last year for the worst car with the most warranty claims having said that you see plenty with star ship mileage kicking about.

sorry I thought it said 807 must get some new glasses, ran a 2000x 1.9d for a while only thing that went wrong was the clutch cable certainly better and more reliable than the newer models.

According to some german forums the golden carrot thing is a poor survey. Apparently the mag in question has a thing about french cars being rubbish and german cars being brilliant.

I had an 806SVDT (P) reg from new for 6 years, managed 166k but then over a 6 month period it required a new clutch, not too surprising but a new engine made me decided to change it over.
I liked driving it, had electric retractable wing mirrows, very useful, and sliding back doors made it very easy to get kids in and out- would I have another one -yes.
Only prob with 8 seats would be little storage room, but well worth a test drive

You own a Previa - and want to change it for an 806?

Go and lie down until you feel better.

it's an 18 year old Previa with some 'issues', it's the third one I've had and was fancying a change but you're right there isn't really anything that will suit my needs better. So if any of you guys in the trade know of a good one for sale, auto preferred and must be the 8 seater then please let me know - all the ones near here are old ones that silly money is being asked for ie K reg, 250k miles, yours for 2.5 grand sir....
Mine is MOT'd and taxed for the next 7 months or so so I could just keep running it but if I don't spend the money SWMBO will find a use for it I'm sure...

We ran a Synergie (same as 806) up to 70,000. No problems apart from clutch at 55,000 after much town use. Replaced it with a C8. More electrics, so a few electrical glitches, but mechanically fine. The sliding doors are dead handy (but then you'll know that from the Previa).

My dad has a Y Reg 806 hdi 7 seater and is having hhuge problems trying to get to the bottom of a turbo fault just now.

Having said that if he was willing to give the dealer about a grand they will put a new turbo in as that is what they have "diagnosed". Understandably he is not willing to spend that amount especially when the service manager couldn't guarantee that this would fix the problem!

Our family car is a 2.0 806 Quicksilver (Y reg). It suffered power loss some time ago & turned out to be MAF sensor. When it happened again, I removed MAF and cleaned it CAREFULLY with toothbrush and meths - restored performance. After third cleaning (over about 2 years) it didn't respond - took it to Camco in Warrington who diagnosed low reading MAF (surprise, surprise) and faulty diaphragm on Inlet Manifold Flap actuator. Apparently MAFs on VW golf also give problems - probably due to salt intake in winter from council gritting.

I had a turbo problem and I could not get it fixed at several places - eventually I took it to a dealer (Warners in Tewkesbury) and they sorted it out - cost me £18. There was a unit at the back of the engine that had failed / was leaking; apparently this unit is not really necessary so the guy just blocked it off (would have cost a lot to replace it). That was about 3 or 4 years ago and the car has run fine ever since. The symptom of the problem was that the turbo just did not seem to cut in and there was a real lack of power / difficulty getting up hills.

Sorry, forgot to add that ours was an XUD turbo diesel, rather than an HDI.

806 is one of the rare things it is better than the car that replaced it more van than car which in a vehicle like these is a good thing XUD engine is great

In some ways, yes the first Sevel MPVs were better than the ones that replaced them (Usefully more compact and fewer electrics to go wrong) but the big improvement on the replacements is the driving position - much less sit-up-and-beg, more car like generally.
