06 2.5 Subaru Forester cambelt - Paulfrance
Have a 2006 model year 2.5 XT Forester, and am interested to learn at what mileage should the cambelt be replaced?

A 2006 Subaru should still be under the three year manufacturer warranty and have owners handbook / service schedule in the glove box.

Based on the multi-model Subaru service schedule in my '06 Outback the cambelt should be changed at 5 years or 50,000 miles for turbo models - 5 years or 60,000 miles for non-turbo.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but we have a March 2003 Forester 2.0x with under 20k miles.

It's coming up for its 5 year service - do people think we should replace the cam-belt ?
I know it's due, but with such light use on a non-turbo engine, and the fact I go for the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" school of thought....

I would replace it.

The rubber of which the belt is made will deteriorate with age as well as use. You can't know how much degradation its suffered by looking at it - and you'd have to remove the belt anyway to inspect it, at whcih point you may as well fit a new one.

If any manufacturer states a time or mileage, whichever occurs first then low mileage vehicles should be "done" on a time basis.

If time is genuinely immaterial, the manufacturer will just specify a mileage.
