hello,looking for some help.There is noise coming from my engine when I start the car up as it is idling.I phoned the AA out and this is what they found,"requires aux belts removed and pulleys checked and engine checked.
Has anybody had this problem on their yaris before,and what kind of costs are involved thank you very much for your help.my car is Yaris 1299ccCDX

What sort of noise is it, can you describe it in any way?.......

if you know where all the drive belts are located that is where the noise is coming from,but just can't be sure if it is the the belts or the wheel pulleys the belts are on or inside the engine at the same location,it feels as if the pulley wheels are loos and ready to come off or one of the belt is not on right or it could be the fly wheel inside the engine I am just guessing,I am just hoping somebody might have had a similar experience and able to tell me what or where the fault is thanks

Could be anything. Power steering pump, water pump, alternator, belt tensioner, or just a noisy belt. Is it a tapping noise, knocking noise, whirring noise, whining noise, squeaking or squealing noise etc? Does the pitch of the noise alter with engine speed, does it only do it when the car is moving?
Without knowing any of this it's virtually impossible to say what it is......

Thanks for your advice,when you start the engine and press the accelelator its a mix of tapping and whining noise ,if you press the accelelator slighly more it tends to be less. You don't really hear the noise at high speed only between 0 to 20 mph.I am going to take a chance and take it to a toyota dealer to get it checked out,and I've near trust the big garages,have had bad experience with them a number of times

Just a thought, could it be a timing chain issue? How far apart are the engine oil changes, and what miles are on the car?

hello,it was only serviced in november last and the oil is as new,as out of the bottle,the car has only done 39,000 miles.I don,t think it is the engine but part of the assortment of the pulleys and belts on the side of the engine,Taking it in to toyota tomorrow to get at the truth.cheers
