Alarm sounds within seconds of remote locking - sb01
Hi Wise Ones
My Xantia has decided that the alarm is a lovely sound about five seconds after locking . . . I'm not convinced. Locking with the key - which doesn't activate the alarm - is fine, so I guess it's the alarm system itself.
Any suggestions where I should be looking for this noisy little gremlin?? - Don't really want to take it to a main dealer - cost will exceed the value of the car!
Thanks in advance for all of the answers I know will be forthcoming.

Does the Xantia have ultrasonic sensors?. Possibly a failure there - might be able to disable if you can trace them on a wiring schematic.

Yes, they have ultrasonic detectors (in the front doors, behind the door mirrors), and yes they go kaput and make the alarm go off. It's possible to set the alarm without them - press the alarm cancel button whilst turning the ingition off or something to test them.

Water ingress to the passenger foot well (via the heater intake duct) can also send the alarm haywire by soaking the ECU under the passenger seat (Mk1 cars).

Thanks for the steer - will look into the options suggested.
Might it be the key? I tried the spare key - hardly ever used in 8 years - and the locking and alarm worked first time . . . . but perhaps that was co-incidence. Any views?
