And if repeated often and widely enough will hopefully rid us of them.

Of course.

Just ask AE about them - he seems to have a fixation with the things :o)

Well, the next time I get stopped by anything with a blue light on it, I'll just say "Hi ducky"
I might just get away with whatever offence I'm committing.

I've sometimes wondered if there's some meaning to those silhouettes of reclining nude women you see stuck on trucks. They seem a bit too hetero, if you get my drift.

If im correct without looking up the forum, it's so they can be seen from a distance.
The red lights inside the cab are used infuse the glare from oncoming traffic during the night.

The blue are just decoration, but the red are there for a good reason - try driving with the interior light on in your car and you can see naff all outside on a dark road - most trucks have a red (and normal white) interior light, this means you can have a light on in the cab for changing the radio, finding your sarnies, having a scratch etc without loosing your night vision - the red light really makes a big difference, I wish cars had them as well!

They do don't they... all the VWs I've been in recently have a feint red light inside at night. Perhaps that's where VW got the idea.

BMW have has the festoon lights thing as well. (item 224 I miss)

My Vectra has an orange LED at the base of the rear view mirror that lights up the centre console at night to help take away the complete darkness of the interior.

My 3 Series had a similar feature, that's what I miss about it, everything was just that little bit nicer somehow than any other car.

Having said that, driving old heaps has it's advantages, my drive to Newcastle last night was more like an episode of Road Wars with some lunatic giving chase to me for a few miles, I was all prepared to do a P.I.T. manouvere in order to remove him from the carriageway (no I'm not kidding) until he decided to naff off of his own accord. :-)

I often see the blue lights and I have wondered whether the gay theory is true, these particular lights point out of the window so don't appear to serve any purpose for lighting the cabin.

The Blue light is used to inhibit the release of Melatonin, which is a hormone the body produces to enduce sleep!

This is all part of your circadian body cycle and blue light is used as a supressor hence Truck Drivers having them in their Cab's!

Even I'm not falling for that one! The lights are facing outwards!

Admit it, it's just because they look pretty.

"The Blue light is used to inhibit the release of Melatonin"

Even if that's the case, why not a bulb or tube? Why fairy lights? Framing the window?
