If so can they let me know why the Cardiff Gate roundabout (the one you enter after leaving Asda at Pontprennau (sp)) to get to the A48 or M4 has no streetlights?
It's a 50 limit on the dual carriageway and there is no lighting on the roundabout or on the approach.

I had a conference in a Hotel there. Tom Tom found it for me otherwise I'd still be driving around in the dark. Perfectly horrid.
And if that turns me into a pig its Grunt Gunt. (see other thread on SatNav.)
PS
Mind you I made a very tidy wedge of money there !

We sheep, do not need lights to see where we are going in the dark.
I expect someone in the Highways Office forgot to have them installed, as they forget many things. ??
|
I also noticed the sign at the first roundabout from the A48 is wrong - it indicates you need to take the junction at '9 o clock' to get to the M4, when in fact this is the minor junction shown on the sign at '7 o clock' and the M4 is at '11 o clock'.
As far as I'm aware if there are no lights the road can't be adopted - I imagine a local authority v highways agency spat may be at the bottom of all this.

Are your headlights not good enough? Or do you follow the local trend down here of saving electricity by only having one working? ;-)
I'm sorry if this sounds off, but to me the answer's simple. Take a bit more time over it. There are far too many unnecessary street lights in this country already. OK it's a 50 limit; that doesn't mean you have to do 50 through the junction does it?
|
No, but someone else might be doing 50 or more through there and not see you as there are two roundabouts that are approached by other drivers at high speeds leaving little space for acceleration or braking.
It actually is quite dark round there, unnervingly so coming from the comparatively bright M4 and A48(M) (as well as the retail park) that are nearby.
The simple answer is, unless you are going to that particular area, use the A48(M) into and out of town or continue to J32 if going to north Cardiff rather than through the lanes into Llanishen.

I have just plotted this through a combination of TT and internet mapping. Yes I remember driving along here, totally congested due a nasty crash on one of the roundabouts. TT diverted me around it very well though.

There are often accidents on that stretch of road.
It can be a bit hairy going over the roundabout, coming from the M4 side.
There are three lanes on the approach, but only room for two vehicles side by side on the roundabout. If someone goes straight through in the middle lane while you are turning right... not good.
Cheers,
Nigel.
