Pull down unit, 3. from the Dizzy Vacuum unit on the Keihin 26-30DC carb goes ? ? A diagram would help !!! ? I have search various forums and websites with no avail ?

A 1996 Mk III Golf doesn't have a carb? Injection only from about '91-on.

What engine is this?

Then those must be about the only Golf IIIs that ever had a carb - nothing in Europe or the US did.

SA-built cars, from all manufacturers, are often complete one-offs to meet the local-content regulations. You'll have to try local sources for any info on them.

I only need info on the Keihin carb - To my knowledge they where also fitted to MK1's from 1983 upto the release of the MK1 Velosity a couple of years ago

I can't recall any Mk I 1.8 with a carb; ours were all K-Jetronic from '82-on.

There were a few Pierburg 2E2 carbs on the non-emission [cat-less] Mk IIs, but I can't remember a Keihin on any of them? Most MkII [and MkIII] 1.8s were Bosch Monopoint.

South Africa has only just introduced emission control and the then only at a low level.

This must be why I can find anything regarding the MK3 and the Keihin on the web ? The hits I get all seem to be polish or some obscure eastern European language ? I think I will play around with the various hoses and vacuum units till I find something that works ? What?s the worst that can happen ? right !!!

There used to be a Russian site that had un-encrypted tech data available -

www.volkswagen.msk.ru

I think you'll find that your set-up is SA only - maybe Keihin have an SA factory and thus can be used under the strict local-content regulations and Pierburg don't.

IIRC MkII Golfs (or was it a MkI Polo) had a picture on the underside of the bonnet showing the vacuum hose connections. It may give some clues. I will look at the wreck in the driveway tomorrow in daylight.
The wreck is an appreciating steel asset, just as insurance against needing a spare car. You can guarantee if I get rid, one of the other cars will suffer a terminal failure!

I know exactly what your talking about ? I have always found a second car more of a necessity than a luxury ? Polo Mk1 might help but as I recently found out the MKII had the Pierburg/Solex 2e2 carb, the vacuum hose config might be the same but I have the MKII Haynes manual and I still cant make head or tails ?

I now have a scanned copy of the underbonnet sticker.

look at www.cyanic.co.uk/vw.jpg

let me know when you have copied it so I can take it off my website.

I am not sure it will do you anygood but may add something to the jigsaw!

You are correct with the 26-30dc, I have and old data book from ZA with all older cars, I dont have a photo of the carb but I do have all the jet and ventury sizes, this was also used on the Jetta's and lastley used on the Golf 1.8 sport

That link is a great document, who are Keihin? Do they make 2E2 copy under licence?

and what is the relationship to to the 26-30?

I would be grateful on any similar info on this carb. I have a 93 Jetta CSX and some of the vacuum pipes are just blocked off and don't seem to do anything. The problem with the car is an intermittent misfire on a flat road at light throttle. Pulling the choke out slightly smoothes it out and the misfire disappears. I've checked all the vacuum hoses and replaced those that looked perished. The rubber mounting under the carb is also sound and not leaking. My next step is to remove and strip the carb.....apparently they are prone to partial jet blockage....especially the idle and slow running/light throttle jets, Accelerator pump also seems lazy and doesn't give a good squirt into the primary choke. Any ideas, source of diagrams etc ?? I live in Cape Town and would be quite happy to discuss the above with anyone that can help.

Please could you give me details of the site you eventually found the Keihin details on.....how did you access the site ? Was there a diagram showing an exploded view of the carb itself ? Thanks.
