A friend of mine tells me that you shouldn't put water and antifreeze in the expansion tank of modern cars (especially Nissan and other Korean/Japanese makes) but only a mixture sold by the manufacturer (should it need a top up). Is this true?

50% water and 50% antifreeze should be ok, there will be a level mark that you fill it to.

Only with the correct antifreeze there are several different types around to but come concentrate from a Nissan garage that is for your car. Requiring to top up the header tank implies there is a leak/loss of coolant somewhere, keep a very careful eye on it, or get it pressure tested. Regards Peter
