Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - mfarrow
What did you get this year? Have you been good boys and girls?

I got a hands-free kit - don't know whether to keep it though as I usually just use the speakerphone function.

I'm also getting a set of car mats tomorrow.

Merry Christmas to you all!

How often do you lick your dashboard??
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - Alby Back
Well, I was given......a new bluetooth headset. night vision goggles and binoculars. The hands free thingy I can understand.....but the others ?
Still trying to figure out if there is some subliminal message or comment here ! Either SWMBO is turning a bit weird or she thinks I am !
All I can think of is that about the only things I will watch right through on TV these days are Top Gear and Ray Mears. Not going buy a pair of those shorts though ! ( Don't have a Passat anyway ! )

May your Grannys behave and your kids stay sober ! Or is it the other way round ? ;-)

Not sure about motoring related- but everything i got seems to be either books or whisky related! And of course "Richard Hammond's Top Gear Interactive Challenge."

Anyone played it? Is it good?

Two radio-controlled model cars, with four little sprung-loaded figures in each. You use your car as a battering ram, to hit a little button on the side of your opponents car to eject the figures.

Just like real life ;>)

Motor sport related anyway - the DVD review of F1 2007, all 3hrs 45 mins of it. Watched Kubica's crash at Canada again. Fantastic! Amazing the progress in F1. He went into the wall virtually head on and flying about 3 feet off the ground - must have been doing much > 100mph - and came out unscathed. Also good to watch the replay of 1 of the Torro Rosso's (I think) desparately trying to avoid all the bits falling off Kubica's car!!

Tyre pressure gauge. Halfords Delux to be precise.

Oh, and my wife gave me a headlight.

You know, one of the lights that one fastens to one's head with a sort of belt that makes one look like a cyclops and enables one to see in the dark and use both one's hands at the same time.

It is motoring related, because she explained that it was so I could wash the car in the dark. Very handy at this time of year in the far north when we don't get much daylight.
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - Pugugly {P}
Tyro,

I treated myself to one of those after I found that unlike BMWs (make that item #59 I miss) SKodas have no lights under the bonnet making routine checks difficult if not impossible this time of the year whilst motoring under extreme conditions. Its one of those dual LED things which makes things look a bit odd (like a faux 3D effect). Hand though.
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - Alby Back
PU - Please just buy another BMW ! At least that way I can say to my wife that according t'int'net there is no question about it being the right thing to do !

Michelin Programmable Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge. I suppose it will work on P Zeros and Korean tyres. Or do I stick to the dial qauge?

(Non motoring included 3 bottles of malt, so must not complain!)
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - Alby Back
Thanks for the offer Altea ! Not rejecting it out of hand but I would need a more detailed description of your goods !

From my side the item in question is quite a sporty model with generally good bodywork. However, due to its age some restoration may be necessary in due course. It has never been particularly ecomomical and requires fairly high levels of maintenance. However, it is a particular favourite with most of our family and there are some members who would be especially reluctant to part with it. It is currently insured on a lifetime policy. We could probably only accept the very highest offers but if the shirts are particularly nice we could perhaps negotiate a little.

;-)
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - Altea Ego
Thanks for the offer Altea ! N

Mine still has astounding bodywork for its age. Its a very small sports model with a lot more miles to give. Its very low maintenance (on a long life service regime). Fully taxed and insured.

One of the shirts is very classy - its boxed.

And I dream Im on vacation - cos I like the way that sounds -

Famous Grouse so can't drive! That's if the prospective Son-in-Law don't get there first. Got him off Lager on to Ale so the Grouse may well be next. Taxis tomorrow too.

"Got him off Lager on to Ale"

Ah so civilizing him then ! Had four pints of Rosey Nosey last week before migrating north: Made me all mellow and nice.

I received the boxed set of the COMPLETE 'Minder' series - the finest programme ever to appear on TV. Arthur Daley defines the used-car salesman ..... absolutely brilliant!

Same here, along with Richard Hammonds book and an Ice Scraper.

I also got a TomTom One for SWMBO as she has been after a satnav for a while.......I know, I know, I spoil her :o)

Not a present...but I am still wondering why a relative sent me a greetings card which had a picture of a cemetery on the front.

Motoring connection...I will end up there if I do not drive carefully.
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - stuartl
I had a few motoring type pressies; An MGB Book and DVD, A Reliant Robin Mug (!) and a few tools.

I was glad as up to then I'd had wine and clothes and had come to the conclusion that my relations viewed me as a badly dressed alcoholic

I shall try and make this motoring related... A wind up torch :)

But more importantly - I didn't have to drive anywhere this afternoon, so, for the first time since I was 20, I could drink and not drive. Pink champagne all round! :)

I was given Clarkson's Supercar Showdown DVD, which is actually pretty good and features Sabine Schmitz racing an R8 against the Stig in a GT3. I also won an Autoglym valet case in that 'name the cars' competition they ran a few weeks back, and that arrived shortly before the last christmas delivery.

Something to spend your book tokens on:
Several weeks ago I bought myself "Chapmans Car Compendium" by Giles Chapman. Its like a 'Schotts Miscellany' for cars, and is quite good.

My only car related present:
My g.f. got me the "Standard Catalog of American Muscle Cars 1960 - 1972". Which is pretty damn good, if you like that sort of thing.

;o)
Best motoring related Christmas present 2007 - JH
Car related, I got "My Dad drove one of them". While it provided some entertainment (and embarassment - "I" drove one of them"!) the "years in production" seem arbitrary, the photo of just one out of a series (say Viva HA/FB/HC) is disappointing and was fuel consumption REALLy that poor?

What a disastrous year for presents. Apart from my wife's gift I received one box of Mach 3 blades (contents 2!) and a box of tea bags.

I was actually jealous of my cousin who got a "Morning Ice kit" which consisted of a scraper and something in an aerosol.

Waino's present sounds pretty top. You can't beat Minder - all filmed around White City, Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith with Arfur's car lot sited in Brook Green. I used to walk past it every day but they've built houses on it now.

I've started working my way through and have just watched the third episode. I was looking forward to the wonderful writing, the humour, the dialogue but, of course, with the intervening years, I wasn't prepared for the great nostalgia trip ........ no political correctness, no mobile phones (Arthur would have been the first to have one!), all the Ford Capris and the dodgy copper in a Morris Marina ;-)

My 'side of the bargain' is that I am taking SWMBO to the ballet .....
