Yes, it's been about a year since the last service and about 11500 miles so no need to buy any more top up oil.
Still expensive stuff though despite the competition from Mobil and Miller Oils !

Your Bora obviously sips oil>>
I've had two Jettas and the current 1.6 petrol Bora since 1992 - none have ever required topping up between oil changes and none have ever leaked a drop of oil on the light grey flagged area of my front garden.

My Jetta 2.0 TDi uses 507.00. So far I've only managed to find it at VAG dealers as Halfords doesn't seem to stock it. It's £14 per litre at VAG. Anywhere else stock it?
By the way my 30,000 mile 07 reg has used 4 litres of oil so far.

Strange this...
Bought a litre from a Skoda dealer (not that I needed it - just in case) and its badged 505 (11.95 a litre) From memory the top ups for the BMW (which I've kept) matched VAG 505 Castrol Edge and Castrol Professional this was badged as BMW Longlife 04 compliant but I remember there was no VAG compliance at all on it..... so basically stuck with two litres of very expensive BMW oil which I don't now need, both these were left in the car after services by my Dealer.....

Halfords do stock it, I bought 1 litre myself this very morning.
The one you want is Castrol Edge 5w-30. It actually says "Replaces SLX Longlife 11" on the bottle.

In Costco Edge 5W/30 VAG oil is £10.56 per litre in a 3 pack. I bought 6 litres.

We do the Comma one called Prolife 5w30 at £11.99 for 1 litre or £49.99 for 5 litre. Its replaced the Comma LongLife which was 0w30, and is 507.00 approved.
Currently driving: 2007 SEAT Ibiza TDi

Have any of you guys on the VAG long life servicing (Any VAG branded car) noticed a reduction in your service costs as a result of the long life servicing regime or does the cost of the oil mean that servicing costs are not that different from having it done every 12 months with 'normal' oil.
|
It's not a question of ordinary oil, you still have to use an oil to the spec 505.1 for yearly changes.( NOT 505 as PU suggested.)
The 504/507 oils are expensive, but so are most of the synthetic oils needed for BMWs, Mercs etc.
I use the Castrol Edge 5W/30 VW/Audi oil for my Passat, and soon for my wife's new car, but change it every year. I do not like these long service ideas, but we had better not start this again!
|
The only saving on the 10,000 regime will be the few quid on the oil. Labour and other charges will be the same so Longlife will save you money.
My longlife regime Audi still gets serviced about every year as I do the indicated mileage (18,500) in about a year.
