Spectacles holder - El Hacko
anyone know of a decent holder (preferably to take 2 pairs of glasses) that could, say, be attached to dashboard? If relevant, car's an A3. Or maybe there's a make of vehicle that has such a useful item as standard and purchasable as a part. Am looking for a "pot" or tubular shape that glasses cld easily be slid into.
Merry Christmas to you all and Safe Driving if you're out over the hol in this murky weather!

I've heard Audi have a sunglasses holder that fits where the handle above the door is.

Someone else will know for sure!

One of the few things I liked about my Renault Espace was a sort of pot with a spring loaded lid which slotted into the cup holders. I think it may also have had a removable ashtray "stubber outer" sort of thing inside. I used to use that for sunglasses. I presume it would fit in many cars. It was also one of the few things on that car which never broke. :-(

VAG do supply these as extras. Or have a look at 150196268250on e-bay. VAG also do a nice little mug that fits in the cupholder, I think its meant to be an ash-tray but turns out to be a wicked mobile phone holder. (so I assume it'll take a specs case)

Has your A3 got a grab handle on the drivers side in the roof?

If so, then the glasses holder for the Corsa-C (and I think the Astra-H as well) *could* be modified to fit.

I've got marvellous spectacle holders, totally reliable, fits any car - nose and both ears.

If you need to change between reading and distance glasses WHILE driving, I'm not sure that counts as adequate vision.

Have you considered the GripPad? Advertised below - I can't do a downward pointing arrow.

bit presumptious, or could you work out why they want the spectacle holder by reading between the lines of the post?

I wear distance glasses, sunglasses and reading glasses but don't need to change them whilst in motion. PPPPPP

I find vari-focals fine. Only way to see the miniscule kilometres per hour numerals when driving abroad. Or the Sat Nav anywhere ;)

I read somewhere that vari-focals at night could cause inflamed images of cars to hurtle up on you through a supernova like wing mirror, but no luck so far.

Haven't you got a glasses holder above your head, in the middle in line with the rear view mirror? The Golf has so I'd be surprised if the Audi didn't.

Failing that, they sell the case you describe in Boots.

I keep my spare glasses wrapped in a soft duster on a small parcel shelf adjacent to the steering column. If you keep them in a case or similar in the car I reckon that the continual movement/vibration could lead to abrasion damage to the lenses. I've no evidence that this can happen, however, it's just a theory based on logic.

Ka has the best-Small elasticated net over the mirror but I also had a stick-on one that was given out by a cigarette company.

thanks all - no, PG, no glasses holder above head, but Gripmat works just fine ... simplest solution usually the best, eh!

One solution (possibly a bit expensive) would be to buy a Mondeo, which has a purpose built spectacles compartment above the rear view mirror.
