The collection of wheels and folded metal under the table is my transport home!!!

Not posted for a while, but if I made it to the party, I would be nursing a single malt or glass of good red wine in the corner but wandering out to see if the skies were clear meaning that I might have to go back to work.
Why might I not make it...7' snow drifts last week stopped my going to work, then again someone would probably change the date of the party after I had arranged time off.
Heres a virtual cheers to the BR and to long lost backroomers....having been here reading and smetimes posting since the original BR seen many people come and go.

I spent some time chatting with Leslie Philips at the wedding of one of my friends a few years back and he didn't fail to disappoint
|
and he didn't fail to disappoint
I'm not sure I've got that. If he didn't fail, then he succeeded. Are you saying that he succeeded in disappointing - or have I misunderstood you?
|
Yeah, I'd just come in from a bar, what was I babbling on about
I meant he was a cool guy, utterly charming.
|
If it is going to be a fancy dress party, who will best take the part of Camp Freddy?
|
We could send special invitations out!!
Was it Lada Boy or some such handle that brought out the best; or was it the worst, in the BR??

Heres your 1/2 bittter now go and join the AS and SNail in the old pharts corner. ------ < Ulla>
We'll give Altea and his Ego a feeding bottle each and put them in the creche!

Would be interesting to put 100 of us in a room and play the game of guessing who each other is. Allowed 3 questions for clues or similar.... obviously we'd all spot bell boy quickly with his long johns showing below his strides but I suspect that PG would be the first and HJ could be the last spotted (I think he uses a model for the photos).
|
just look for a Shrek lookalike (without the green hue and odd ears) hovering near the nibbles and you'll find me.

Yes, I've often thought it would be amusing to have a back room meetup where we don't divulge our identities (or at least not our back room identities) and try to work out who is who.
I believe you are wrong about HJ - take a look at this:

Hmmm! Would n't spot him without the hat though.

I'd like to have a drink with the few ladies who contribute to this site, nevern having met one of the fairer sex who has any interest in a car apart from its colour!

"nevern having met one of the fairer sex who has any interest in a car apart from its colour"
That might make an interesting thread in itself.
My wife can't drive but is quite enthusiastic about cars. She wanted silver, yes, but she also wanted aircon, leather, toys and V6. She won't entertain the idea of a lesser know brands like Kia although I was up for the Ceed SW. She has limited mechanical knowledge but is an expert on the V6 configuration after having 5 coil failures in 2 or 3 years, she could probably change the front bank herself.
No interest in washing it though but she hoovers it after the kids have French Fry accidents or whatever
|
Nicoles preference was
It had to look nice, it had to be "nice to drive", it had to be a nice colour, not too big, comfortable to sit in, and not a skoda or kia ("I refuse to drive around in thing named after orange juice") or a daewoo (tho a chevrolet was ok?????) or a proton, a good view out and a cd player.
I think "nice to drive" means light controls (gearbox, clutch, over servoed brakes, light steering in town*), quiet and comfortable ride.
* However she did comment on one car "wow dont like that - the steering is too light and I cant feel where the wheels are"

mrs mm has a keen interest in cars loves her scirrocco to bits, also a very good driver, can also reverse our caravan onto our drive as good as i can. she started driving at 14 on her dads farm
A mate who's also a petrol head started going out with a girl I asked what she was like he repied well she certainly knows her Buick from a Bedford!
As to the back roomers party i always got the feeling that Lud was a bit like Leo Mckern a rumpole type charachter!

It's nice that this thread has reignited.
Its typical of what happens at any party .
When the law ( Fullchat ) turned up the vast majority of the partygoers scattered for cover and thread went very quiet for four days..... :0)

I´m going to have to drop out of this virtual drinks party - Mrs Barchetta has just given birth to a bouncing baby boy- mum and son both doing well.
|
Is she popping them out every year now or am I just having Deja voooo?
Congrats, happies etc etc.
|
#1 son was this time 2 years ago. Time flies!
Champagne is open, and being quaffed at pace - not least by Mrs B.
Thanks all for the messages.
|
WOW that was some party barchetta! Congrats to mama.
So that BMA and BMB in the family, next one will be BMC!

Congratulations ! But have a care, any more and you are well on your way to MPV purgatory !
|
Sorry to let you down guys (and gals) but I'm on a plane tomorrow to the second home in the sun, so wouldn't get to you. I would really miss it though although I would probably have a half of mild and diet Coke chaser to last me all evening.
Have a great break everyone and see you in the New Year. I'm banned from having computer time when we are away! Must admit though, it makes me far more relaxed.
|
I could cope with a Zafira OPC, as the hot version is called over here!
Until then it´ll be the Astra estate with a roof box.
You guys *just* managed to talk me out of that V6 Audi A4 by the way.

Hearty congrats!
Did the inn have a room or was the stable suitably accomdating?
Yes there are clearly numerous wisemen on here though generally bearing grudges!
As as for following the pointed star, well you can try though you might need a prancing donkey just to keep up!
|
LOL! Thanks mate!

|
Congratulations Barchettaman!
I think I'd be at a distinct disadvantage if we did ever meet up and try and guess who everyone was! We should do it one day though!
|
if for real where would the back roomers "really" assemble? my proposal would be the watford gap services .... comments please
Your post seemed to make more sense in here, Milkyjoe, hope that's ok...

watford gap services .... comments please

I propose Sedgemoor not because it is realistic for most of you, rather in the hope that we can meet in the middle.
Seriously, somewhere around the M42/M5 junction, M6 - M5 from the NW, M1 - A42 - M42 from the NE, M40 from the S and M5 from the W and SW.

Watford Gap?
A plate of grease and a load of crap [/Roy Harper]

I read often, only post occasionally

i would rather eat my own head than suffer watford gap again after what it did to me in 1977
|
I'm gonna regret this but what happened to you in 1977?
|
gastro enteritus :-(((((((((((((((

>>gastro enteritus<<
Ah, the X factor opera singer!

>>gastro enteritus<<
Is that similar to dire rear?

Congratulations to all barchettaman - no wonder the older generation are trekking up for the occasion. Enjoy the chilled wine (believe me, it will be!)

If 50% of UK live within 75 miles of London [guessing], should it not be the North circular? Or perhaps at PoloGirl's local so that she can get there early, as she'll have the tough task of putting lables on all!
The car park will be fun, and will need to be huge, since many here have two motors. In fact, no-one would want to be indoors, so it will need to be in summer [or abroad...]
Who wouldn't make it because their car broke down? And no-one on BR to advise as we're all at the party.
|
>>The car park will be fun and will need to be huge
However huge it is it won't be fun. From the way some of you talk it will be full of 18-stone tattooed geezers teasing each other about their jalopies and girlfriends, reversing into each other at speed and after a brisk bout of fisticuffs giving each other complicated advice about how to maximise the legal returns, ignoring the arrival of squads of bewildered plod... jeez!
My disgraceful valueless heap will be parked crookedly in a gutter some distance away, for safety's sake.
|

Ah, you're making the mistake of thinking I might actually come! The last one was at my local and I managed to avoid that one.
Someone has to mind the forum. ;-)

Can`t imagine anything worse than actually meeting ................
Point is, does membership of the forum imply any compatability at all other than the very minor mutual interest of cars.
A serial murderer on death row and a priest in the Vatican may share that interest, but would you really want to meet?
:):)

Why not? You might be the witness to the saving of a soul.

at this party i'd stroll up to PhilW and congratulate him for winning the 'detective of the year award' for establishing who 'pda' was so quickly...and...getting a full and frank confession within 3 posts
stirling work
|
Eh who what, do tell I like a good whodunnit.
|
have a look at the thread titled 'An open letter to car drivers'....comment by PhilW about the identity of pda
