Back Room Drinks Party - R75
As it's the party season and most of us will end up going to a party somewhere and deciding who we are going to chat to, I thought it might be interesting to find out who BR's would gravitate towards if there were a BR drinks party.

Personally, I think I would seek out Lud, his posts nearly always bring a bit of a smile and a laugh - Maybe even Altea Ego to dispel his myths about fat hairy truckers, oh, maybe not then!! ;o)

You can all have a drink on me. I've had enough of this cold weather. As soon as the kids finish school we're on a plane to somewhere warm for Christmas and New Year. I'm going to be sat on a beach with something long and cold...

I don't drink, so I suppose I'd end up being the designated blinkin' driver.....as usual !
It's bad enough having a wife with an advanced driving qualification when I don't, but can you imagine ferrying a car load of Backroomers with a drink in them ?? The patience of whatsisname springs to mind ;-)

Do a google, you don't have to delve deep into the world of espionage.

After years of trying to pretend he didn't exist, I'd probly have a beer and natter with RF, in the Bar, during the interim of the WOTW show. Still waiting for invite.

HJ's real identity was revealed to me by a BBC South East interview he did last year . I would of course like to meet the great man himself as from what he has revealed about himself we seem to come from the same part of the UK .

I would like to meet with BBD , his threads regarding his thunderous hangovers and throwing up after a hard night have me laughing in sympathy. Been there done that .

As revealed in another thread , we may have already crossed paths on holiday in Crete so I would have to bring a bottle of Raki or Ouzo to share with him and Altea Ego.

I would also like to meet PG and offer a sympathetic shoulder and try to cheer her up.....

Oh and bell boy - so I can see the real man and get the vision of an old man Steptoe in grubby vest and long johns out of my head.......
Back Room Drinks Party - Altea Ego
Oh dear this is a tough one

Yes TU and his mates. Like to see gay fat hairy truckers dancing to YMCA after a few babychams.

Adam and PG of course, now she is free I know they can get down and canoodle in the corner.
BobbyG, we can swop Altea stories,
PU of course, get him drunk and find out how much his beloved beemer stripped his wallet for.
DD ( I would replace his Vauxhall badge - poor lad would be lost - he thinks every car has a griffon badge on the front)
AS, Lescargot - the old timers can nurse half a bitter in the corner each and say "parties in the old days were better"
BBD would be in charge of entertainment (strippers and hookers no doubt)
Cheddar - I would wear a McLaren team shirt to upset him
I would send Aprilla home in an Espace 2.2DCi Diesel Taxi just before his flight is due, that will screw his holiday plans up.
The bloke who put 25% vegtable oil in his common rail diesel focus wont get to the party at all of course
Stu can valet all our cars outside.

Everyone is welcome, pendles, chopper, spada, hugo etc Special guests would be Mark(RBLS) and NoDo$h

Michael R - We often seem to think along similar lines, plus, if he got drunk enough he might let me take his car for a blast. :-)

Aprilia - I think I probably owe him a drink by now for various pieces of advice over the years!

BBD - I suspect he'll make the party more interesting.

Anyone who was at the meet a couple of years ago, I can't even remember where it was now except to say it was near Manchester(ish)

I'm sure that there's more people who should be on the list but it would get veyr long if I listed everyone!

Strange what people pick up on (though with RF, well .... ;-) ), it just seemed to me that they were guilty, a view that has been vindicated this week. I am pleased that it is now not being taken on into 2008 so I can now wear a McLaren shirt with pride rather than shame, silver suits me so much better than red, matches the highlights in my hair rather than the bloodshot in my eyes!

Re the party, time and place is what I say, not much into virtual drinkin'

Back Room Drinks Party - Number_Cruncher
That's me, in the corner, with the techie types, chatting about oily components, sketching on some paper, and doing the odd sum [sorry, yes!, those are pens in my shirt pocket]

For extra fun (as if it were needed), I would probably be surreptitiously and yobbishly lobbing peanuts - trying to land them in the rim of HJ's headgear, or down the back of AE's collar, or into Bell Boy's pint of stout!

Number_Cruncher
Back Room Drinks Party - bell boy
you can lob the peanuts into my beer NC but please not in the single malt mine host tried to hide in the third cupboard on the left, but i managed to find :-)

seeing as im off to countries cold next week (cant do with all that heat stuff plus my long johns will get extra usage while im there ) i would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the back room a very merry xmas and a prosperous and healthy new year..........

Back Room Drinks Party - Lud
All sounds a bit dull I must say. Stout? Peanuts? Punch-ups? Yawn. That was fifty years ago.

I will be in the pulsating Rolls-Royce with blacked-out windows in the far corner of the car park, giggling hysterically and holding a mysterious conversation with assorted non-members of the back room.

Such a party would in truth be a very strange experience. One has these images of people that are quite likely to be wildly out, although I have to say that the only brer I have met in the flesh was much as I would have expected...

If it took place though I might easily sidle past out of curiosity.

And thank you TU for your kind words. I will come with bodyguards in case AE means me.

Sounds as if a 'virtual' drink-up is a better bet, and more fun, than the reality - we might turn out to be much more ordinary than some of us make out! (Me - I make no secret of being a chartered accountant AND a trainer, so boring on both counts...)

The northern contingent managed to get 6 people together after over 100 posts on their thread; in the South two of us met when we said we would - where are you now, Steve (SjB)? - and some others hadn't got the wit to find us.

(PoloGirl, what do you mean 'coincidentally' in the same pub? - you sent out the note in the thread organising it!!)

You may well have a point Avant. I have no doubt that there are many here who would find each other's company agreeable, but it is quite difficult to be sure in advance who would get on with, er, whom. We have to bear in mind that a narrow range of subjects is discussed here.

And now you mention it that PG (or Miss Whiplash as I sometimes think of her) owes me a couple too. I will (virtually) buy you both one in return, and the relatively tolerant DD two.

As it's my shout, I'll be the one who's hidden the karaoke machine and pulled the plug out of the jukebox. I'm the quiet one at the end of the bar munching a couple of pies.

Almost sprayed my beer across the monitor when I read that Leslie Philips had been cast as Lud. I can just imagine him with a leggy blonde on each arm saying "Well, hel-loooo!".

I think that I'd want to gravitate towards HJ to remind of the day we met at a boozer in Narf London along with Spikeyhead, Marcos, HF and other noteables. Also, RF (or whatever he calls himself these days) seems to be the type of chap to keep a party going. PoloGirl always looks good value too. Though I could have phrased that a little better. "nevern having met one of the fairer sex who has any interest in a car apart from its colour"

That might make an interesting thread in itself.

My wife can't drive but is quite enthusiastic about cars. She wanted silver, yes, but she also wanted aircon, leather, toys and V6. She won't entertain the idea of a lesser know brands like Kia although I was up for the Ceed SW. She has limited mechanical knowledge but is an expert on the V6 configuration after having 5 coil failures in 2 or 3 years, she could probably change the front bank herself.

No interest in washing it though but she hoovers it after the kids have French Fry accidents or whatever
Back Room Drinks Party - Altea Ego
Nicoles preference was

It had to look nice, it had to be "nice to drive", it had to be a nice colour, not too big, comfortable to sit in, and not a skoda or kia ("I refuse to drive around in thing named after orange juice") or a daewoo (tho a chevrolet was ok?????) or a proton, a good view out and a cd player.

I think "nice to drive" means light controls (gearbox, clutch, over servoed brakes, light steering in town*), quiet and comfortable ride.

* However she did comment on one car "wow dont like that - the steering is too light and I cant feel where the wheels are"

If 50% of UK live within 75 miles of London [guessing], should it not be the North circular? Or perhaps at PoloGirl's local so that she can get there early, as she'll have the tough task of putting lables on all!

The car park will be fun, and will need to be huge, since many here have two motors. In fact, no-one would want to be indoors, so it will need to be in summer [or abroad...]

Ah, you're making the mistake of thinking I might actually come! The last one was at my local and I managed to avoid that one.

Someone has to mind the forum. ;-)

Can`t imagine anything worse than actually meeting ................

Point is, does membership of the forum imply any compatability at all other than the very minor mutual interest of cars.

A serial murderer on death row and a priest in the Vatican may share that interest, but would you really want to meet?

:):)
