Honda have issued a handbrake recall, because the spring in the handbrake has been fitted the wrong way round (good old Swindon, eh?). In the meantime drivers are advised to apply the handbrake WITHOUT pressing in the ratchet button at the end of the handle.
I agree Altea - there is no way that is assembled on the line.
Although as I have said before it does not excuse Honda - they control the supply chain.
I know people who have had experience of supplying Honda and believe me there will be hell to pay. (As with other brands)
Apparently during the Rover relationship, Longbridge were supplying some sub assemblies to Honda. It is std practice to paint bolt heads with a dab of paint on safety critical parts after the inspector has checked the torque settings etc.
Rover ran out of yellow paint and started using white paint.
Honda wouldn't stand for it and demanded a full investigation as to why rover thought they could work away from process without engineering and quality buy off.
My son & D-i-L had a recorded delivery letter from Honda - it was about the handbrake - the recorded letter stated that the repair will be done in March!
Handbrake safety and the repair is to be done in March!
That is not good - or it is not as unsafe as some may think.
I would write back to the customer service manager by name who signed the letter (not that they personally sign) recorded delivery and tell him it is unacceptable - see what response you get back.
Yes, our driver's letter said repair not possible until March, too, and gave advice as to how the handbrake should be properly used in the meantime - by not depressing the end button.
