(93 to 97) 1.9TD - clutch replacement - isisalar
Need to replace the clutch on my Xantia 1.9TD VSX EST. Was delighted to hear from my first choice motor factor that an 'original' clutch was only £100 inc.VAT,and a Valeo one was available @£20 less. On ringing around for quotes I've been told:~
Valeo is original equipment
Valeo and borg&beck are no good
Clutch international are the best
L UK are the best

Clutch specialists will only fit what they supply and I'm not keen to let one of them near it after my last experience.Clutch juddered badly(na thats normal mate) and the gear lever came adrift an hour after picking it up(must be worn out mate nothing to do with us)
Any advice re makes please?
Can anyone recommend someone in NW london capable and reasonable? The book time for the job is just over 7hours.

There is a mechanic near me in North Kensington for whom I have a high regard and whose charges are reasonable. But we are inside the congestion charge zone (something that may force him to move sooner or later). Any use?

I'd be very grateful to be put in touch.I don't mind a bit of inconvenience to get the job done right. Thanks

I am not sure about the protocol here. I will ask the moderators for yr email address if that is all right and send you the details by email.

We'd be right down there with the vibes, pretty hard-core with a buff female lead. Isn't it ?

Sounds good PU. Pity I can't play an instrument. Of course I could put on some eye shadow and a bit of bling and play a tambourine or something.

Bo Diddley had a big tall white woman bass player called IIRC the Princess.

Valeo is OE on these, and I wouldn't fit anything else. 7 hours is pretty good going - it took me and a mate more than this to do the clutch on our ZX TD (same engine and box) and there is less in the way on that set up. On a Xantia this is best entrusted to a cit specialist, as you need to remove the LHM tank and disturb the regulator on the front of gear box. There's a very good Cit specialist in Hertfordshire some where - can't remember the name though... Try Yellow Pages?

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

isisalar: if you still want my mechanic's details you should email me so that I can email you, as PU has not given me your address.

Done it now - sorry I'm not that perfect.

Sorry,

Just checked the original e-mail, there was a typo in it.

I bought a replacement clutch kit from GSF for the wifes 405TD. Genuine Citroen part cost around 80/90 pounds on offer and included alignment tool. I spent a week fitting it - 2 hours a night sort of thing. I also replaced the driveshaft seals at the same time whilst it was in bits. Not difficult to do but a fair bit of dismantling.

Steve.
