borrowed one of these today and kept my 1967 esso map in the glove box
no idea of the make
no idea how to programme it
but it was brilliant
best thing for me?
it shows north so when i came back from whenst i came i knew i was going in the right direction in relation to magnetic north (ive always used my nose before)

desperately need to be able to switch the nagging woman sound off but leave the speed camera beep on, impossible to setup like this on a tom tom
bad news being sent down dirt tracks one car wide to find a tractor coming the other way
bad news being sent down heavily speed bumped street when a flat road is parallel
be nice to have a button "replan now for non motorway route" when pulling off motorway thats blocked ahead, i sometimes drive round the M25 with the sat nav set to "plan non motorway route" completely ignoring the sat nav until and unless i need to pull off when its blocked

You can effectively disable the voice on TomTom but be warned of cameras. You need another "silent" voice. On mine it's called Special39 and as I say it is silent.
As for avoiding motorway like you say you can say "Find Alternative" and tell TomTom about a roadblock ahead or to avoid this motorway.

magnetic north (ive always used my nose before)
And what pray is wrong with the good old hooter used by Drake and, er, other early mariners....
And what use is magnetic north to a driver? If the roads were aligned with the points of the compass, which they aren't really, they would probably be aligned with the bureaucratic 'true North' rather than the thing your nose points to when you stick it on the end of a hazel fork (isn't that how you find things on the fells bb?).
best wishes,
sat nav lud

Fill up with diesel or buy a sat nav? Hmmmmmm.

"kept my 1967 esso map in the glove box"
The 1967 esso map must be the best way to avoid issues with the M25!
|
where did you get the silent tom tom voice from?
