After reading about engine failures on the D-turbo on models 1997 onwards (DHY Engine) , I am hoping that mine is fitted with the DHX engine. Does anyone know where abouts on the block the serial number is situated? Thank you.

It's in the middle of the VIN number - on the O/S inner wing or the bulkhead.
[And possibly the base of the windscreen too.]

Many thanks. I'll go and check.

Yep, just discovered that mine is fitted with the dreaded DHY unit. Apart from driving steadily and regular oil changes, does anyone have any tips on how to avoid the 'big bang'. Thanks, Gary.

how many miles has the car done? ,most dhy engines have gone pop by now as there was only a small run with the problem and it doesn't cover all dhy engines, most that have reached 100k by now will no doubt be fine for the rest of their life as long as they are reguarly serviced like any other engine

There was a design weakness in the rod itself; anecdotal evidence suggests that they tend to go at motorway speeds.
Whether that's the cause or just the final stage of a progressive failure is difficult to tell - first you have to find where the rod went....

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. The cars done 107k now so i'm hoping that everything will be okay. If the worst does happen, I know where to come for advice!
Thanks again, Gary.
